Hope you are well. I was forwarded your email from Sandi Chiu and Rebecca Sine. Congratulations on becoming the President of SIM for 2017-2018 Melissa, and thank you for all your hard work Krishna. I believe we met at the student conference J  I hope the transition period is going well.
 
I wanted to let you know we have an opportunity for a work-study position at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicinethat just opened. We’re looking for a self-sufficient research assistant and administrative support for our TENs Unit Research Study. Work-Study Position
 
A.      RESEARCH ASSISTANT AND PROJECT SUPPORT
1.       Assist in data collection with and without special equipment for research project
2.       Work with staff and/or researcher to update status report on study progress
3.       Assist in scheduling and correspondences with subject by calling or emailing subjects
4.       Maintain research schedule with staff and/or researcher
5.       Copy and print materials for the research project as necessary
6.       Execute research protocol tasks with accuracy and consistency 
 
B. ADMINISTRATIVE/ SECRETARIAL SUPPORT 

1. Type and proofread written materials including reports, proposals, and correspondences based on drafts provided by program director and program administrator. 
2. Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors on all drafts. 
3. Provide reminder notices and follow-up correspondences to pertinent individuals such as fellows, vendors, directors, et cetera. 
4. Copy manuscripts, forms, correspondence, journal articles, class handouts using photocopy machine and scanner.
5. Fax and receive documents as necessary using a facsimile machine.
6. Answer phone calls; triage, screen and take accurate messages. Coordinate conference calls and assist with documentation of conference calls when necessary. Greet incoming guests. 
7. Maintain database on donors, accounting files, and other documentation. 
8. Arrange staff and professional meetings; coordinate conferences and speaking engagements; reserve rooms; order audio-visual equipment and other aids. Make arrangements for catered meetings. 
9. Receive, sort, fax, and deliver mail, faxes, packages, and documents to various campus locations. Distribute incoming mail and redirect mail when appropriate. 
10. Perform online and in-person library searches as necessary.
11. Order computer and office supplies as needed. Maintain an adequate level of supplies. 
12. Obtain journal articles using electronic methodologies. 
13. Work with support staff on completing travel, purchasing, and reimbursement paperwork. 
14. Assist with special projects as needed. 

B. TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO CENTER PROJECTS 
1. Provide technical assistance to the administrative and academic teams of the Center by compiling files, journal articles, and other materials for research, teaching, and meetings. 
2. Routinely scan newsworthy current media reports and journal articles on topics related to Integrative Medicine to support educational and research programs.

C. ORGANIZE SPECIAL EVENTS AND CONFERENCES 
1. Provide on-site assistance by executing tasks as assigned by support staff to ensure smooth operation and to solve problems.
 
 
 
Qualifications:
 
1.       Skill in editing for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
2.       Ability to recognize, spell, and use technical and medical terminology appropriately.
3.       Strong ability to synthesize information plus excellent writing skills.
4.       Ability to seek advice and help from staff and other resources when appropriate.
5.       Computer literacy particularly with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint required.
6.       Superb attention to detail and disciplined work habits. 
7.       Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task to maintain organization and efficiency in completing work in a timely manner when there are frequent interruptions and changes in workload, assignments, and deadlines.
8.       Demonstrated skill in scheduling meetings and exercise good judgment in handling overlapping meetings.
9.       Ability to type with speed and accuracy using PC and MAC operating systems.
10.    Familiarity with electronic journal article retrieval systems.
11.   Strong interpersonal skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with individuals in various organizational levels within and outside the University.
12.   Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collegial working relationships with other staff members and faculty as well as work in a team-oriented environment.
13.   Ability to operate office equipment such as printer, scanner, copier, facsimile machine, et cetera.
14.   Familiarity with HIPPA and research methods preferred.
15.   Second or third year undergraduate student with a high level of maturity is preferred.
