I just purchased a 1965 Silvertone 1457 guitar and case/amp. Do i need to do anything other than replacing power cord with a grounded one to make it safe to play.

I have read that an isolation transformer is needed in some models, such as the 1448. I have read conflicting information about the 1457 model. Some say it needs one, some say it does'nt.

You don't need anything else, except the usual checkup and possible overhaul of the amp section. A good cleaning of tube sockets and a replacement of filter caps (like in any old tube amp) are the only things needed, a very easy job for any amp tech.
No need for an isolation transformer in this model.
I like my 1457 much better with flatwound strings, but that's a matter of personal taste.
