Tuning pegs reversed on my Silvertone U-1

Hi, I have a silvertone U-1 with a dolphin headstock and one constant annoyance is how the tuning pegs are reversed, that is: they look normal but when tuning the guitar I have to twist the pegs the opposite way to tune up/down.

Do any of you know how to or have any experience disassembling one of these to fix the tuning peg problem, I'd like to get this thing as functional as possible.
