Hi Everyone

Over the next few months, I will be doing a fair amount of work on e-commerce.  I would love some feedback on some of the new stuff I have been working on so far:

  • faster loading of products through the use of ZEND caching
  • better Javascript
  • geocoding of address field in checkout
  • improved search
These improvements will go on for around another two months (I am sure there is lots broken right now), but it would be great to get some feedback and help.

THANK YOU

Hi Nicolaas,

This is really timely because I'm working at getting it going in my website. I badly need to upgrade!

I am trying to integrate paypal. Can you tell me if I require the payment module or the new omnipay modules to do that?

Thanks!
Arbee

Hi Arbee

You do not require the payment module or the omnipay module.  I am looking at integrating the omnipay module though as it could be useful.

if you like an example of how to integrate paypal then I can show you how.

Cheers

Nicolaas

Would anyone be interested in developing the SIMPLE theme?  I have done part of this work, but it looks a bit messy at present.

Thank you Nicolaas, an example would be great please. I did get it working, but examples are always useful.

I found a little issue with the search that you may want to check into. I have 3 categories (let's say A, B & C) and products in each. One product in B was also available in A using "other products shown in". That all worked fine until I decided I did not want it shown in A any more. Removed the setting however the search results still had it coming up as showing in that product group. Maybe it was something I did wrong and you can set me right.

A few people have asked for this, so I will add an example soon.

does it still show up after a ?flush=all

do you know how to do that?

Firstly, you can have a quick look by logging in as admin and then running the search after ticking the debug checkbox. That should show you all the "sql queries".

If you still have issues after that then I will fix it.

Please make sure to let me know, because of course I would like to fix any bugs.

Yes I had flushed. I even shut off the browser and tried again. Now I rebooted my computer, reset an extension and it is working fine. No idea why it wasn't before but I suspect it may have been something to do with my browser, although I had tried a different one as well. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it happens again, may have just been glitch on my end.

Do you have or where can I find any documentation on how to:

- set the default sort order?
- have additional options for sort order? eg I want sort by "newest product"

Other feedback:

I noticed that search results are based on the previous search, is there a way to reset the search so when a new search is carried out it is over all products or category rather than previous results?

In the cart, it doesn't allow me to change the quantity - form disappears and when refreshed comes back with 1 again.

Maybe something I'm doing wrong!
