That looks interesting but have you actually gotten debian running on
it? What version?

I have a version of Centos 5 which runs on the ALIX XDX boxes that are
about the same price, and have at least twice as much ram, and an AMD
Geode processor. I'll put that up at some point, but haven't had the
time.

Are you behind the awdmesh store? Looks like you can buy a
routerstation there running DD-WRT, so nothing out of the ordinary. I
think you might get some more attention if you were selling the router
stations with Debian (or better yet, Centos or Fedora) instead of WRT
like everyone else has.

Fred,

Yes I have run debian on that device. I believe at the time it was
debian lenny, but now I think it's up to squeeze. It is my intention
of selling it with a version of linux, possibly on sd card/usb once I
work further details out with the dev responsible for debwrt.net. I
actually met him while in Europe, great guy and he loves working on
his project.

What would it take to run silver splash on debian? What if I get
debian up and running on it again with all the configuration in place
for the wan/lan ports - would you have time to come in and configure
silver splash? I'll save it in the state you leave it and clone the
image on the usb stick for others to use.

Just to give you an idea of what I had running on this box,

A full install of debwrt + zoneminder compiled for mips + usb webcam +
ip camera all being feed into the box while running off usb stick. It
didn't have a problem running that, so I'm sure it would do a good job
running silversplash. Once I get back from the holidays I'll take a
crack at setting it up, just figure it would be faster if I had
everything in place and you come in remotely and set it up like it
should be.

Wish you could edit these posts... had it right the first time now
that i went and pulled up my notes. Plus I put the incorrect model/
version in the title of the post, oh well.

Have a Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to what 2011 brings.

Aaron,

Thanks for your submissions, but please note that this is a list for
discussion of technical matters regarding to SilverSplash. Please
keep that in mind for future posts.

It doesn't look like those router stations have enough memory to run
SilverSplash even if they had Linux installed on them. There's only
so much you can get out of a $79 box.

I realize this is for SilverSplash. I was only trying to provide a
nice easy package with it running. I don't get what you mean about
enough memory, the 16MB flash has nothing to do with the room for
Linux and the device has 128MB ram. Debian is installed on USB and or
a HDD. Please clarify what you mean here.

If I can run a full install of Zoneminder (apache, mysql, php, ffmpeg),
with usb cams, ip cams, all streaming 640x480 video and being
processed by this same device there is no reason it couldn't run
SilverSplash and do it without problems. The person that maintains
debwrt runs websites, mysql databases, ftp, and tons of other things
and has been for well over a year without a hiccup. And the comment
about $79, actually you can get a lot out of this device and I've
already done it.

I'll get it all setup, if you would like to help that would be great.
If not, I'll eventually get it figured out and post it back here for
others to use.
