Yes, this is kind of last minute, and yes, it's somewhat hot out these
days, though likely shaded on the trail. 5:30pm, Mobile Drive TH
(above the San Vicente Tr. (32.753028,-108.269864))

In the past week, there have been numerous changes limiting public
access in the San Vicente zone, inconveniently right as Tour Divide
and GDMBR bikepackers are passing through en masse. Tour Divide
leader, Victor, who is well ahead of record pace just passed through
this morning, and more are right behind him. The San Vicente
singletrack is in mostly passable shape, but anyone who knows the
trail knows that the eroded Gila Conglomerate section on the south end
is far from ideal for folks on loaded bikes, hell not ideal for most
people really. Let's meet near this section to widen the trail where
possible (and it is possible), and make it less of a nightmare for
exhausted humans on loaded rigs. Pick Axes and McLeods are ideal for
widening the trail if you've got em, and Eric will try to bring a few
as well

Seems like a worthy cause and I am very familiar with that Gila Conglomerate bit.  Honestly, short of dynamite, I don't see how much widening can be done there.  I am heading that way within the hour and I will take another look.

Dave you're right, there is a good bit that is solid rock, but there
is also loads of off-camber eroded, sloughed off dirt that can be
pushed aside. I started to do this a few days ago, and with help, at
least 50% can be widened.

Did you guys have any luck this evening?  Should I bring my hammer drill in the morning?

We made some serious progress aside from 2 small sections of extremely hard rock.  Take a gander first, it is a lot better and some of the rock was more brittle and was broken up with a heavier pickaxe.
