Totally confused here. Thunderbird wants me to use my current email (a gmail account) which I do not want. I thought by getting Thunderbird I could just create a brand new email (No, I do not want to buy a domain name!) and do something like blah-bl...@thunderbird.com. Looks like I was completely mislead by an article on doing what I really need.
I regret your confusion. Thunderbird is an email client, not an email address. People use Thunderbird as a tool to manage their email accounts, address books, and calendar. Should you wish to request a return of your donation, please do so here at -US/donate/help/ Thank you for your interest in Thunderbird. As an aside, if you are wanting to create a new email address in addition to your gmail address, several free ones can be set up at outlook.com, gmx.com, yahoo.com and others.
Hi Tom, Thunderbird is an email program that can connect to various email services. If you want a new email address, you can create one with a service provider and then follow their instructions for setting up Thunderbird to send/receive messages on that account. This does not require running your own domain/mail server.
These Release Notes cover what's new, download and installation instructions, known issues and end user support / feedback for the Thunderbird 2 release. Please read these notes and the bug filing instructions before reporting any bugs to Bugzilla.
Please note that installing Thunderbird 2 will overwrite your existing installation of Thunderbird. You won't lose any of your mail, but some of your extensions and other add-ons might not work until updates for them are made available.
Removing Thunderbird 2 won't remove your email messages, extensions or other add-ons. This data is stored in your profile folder, which is located in one of the following locations depending on your operating system:
Extensions installed under Thunderbird 1.5 may be incompatible and/or require updates to work with Thunderbird 2. Please report any issues to the maintainer of the extension. When you install Thunderbird 2 all of your Extensions and Themes will be disabled until Thunderbird 2 determines that either a) they are compatible with the Thunderbird 2 release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible.
We need all the exposure we can get. Make it your mission to convert as many of your friends, family members and coworkers as possible. If you're a student, get it distributed at your college. Submit a story to Slashdot and other news sites about the release. Make some noise on your blog. Mass distribution via the Internet is possible.
A tarball of the Thunderbird 2 source code is available for download. The latest development code can be obtained by cvs. Thunderbird-specific source is in "mozilla/mail", "mozilla/mailnews", "mozilla/toolkit", and "mozilla/chrome". Please follow the build instructions.
None of the above works, so I checked the redirect with wheregoes.com and it doesn't show any redirect from http to https.I've even changed the DNS to point to another IP served by a server, where I've never set up redirection - the redirection is still in effect.
"Sites preferences" are the culprit. Wasted 45min of my life finding how to fix it despite all the kb/support.mozilla tricks which does not solve your issue nor did mine. I don't know what triggers this issue, but several of my websites started to go pear-shaped in a few weeks only affecting me and only firefox.
With .dev being an official gTLD, we're most likely better of changing our preferred local development suffix from .dev to something else. If you're looking for a quick "search and replace" alternative for existing setups, consider the .test gTLD, which is a reserved name by IETF for testing (or development) purposes.
Now (Firefox 84) it is much simpler to clear the site's data. Just click the padlock icon on the left of the address bar. Then choose "Clear cookies and site data".I had the same situation as what OP did. It helped me to clear the HTTPS redirect.
In my case, I decided to use a *.dev domain for local development. But then I tried to open the site in Firefox, and after a while I realized it uses HTTPS, even when I start the url with " " I tried to right-click on the link in the History, and choose Forget About This Site, or clear the cache. But it didn't help.
Lets get back to the old firefox that was amazing, the 3.6.Nowadays is full of crap for us developers, and sysadmins.I have tons of sites in intranet that cannot have a valid ssl, this is a major deal. I cannot download "deb" files because its a threat, i cannot this and cannot that... why? I am a power user i know what to do whit, why should I (we) be treated like the rest of the users?
I had this issue when running Firefox with OWASP ZAP proxy.I didn't knew it was the proxy causing this.In hindsight it's easy to test this: run Firefox without OWASP ZAP proxy to see if it works. To get it working with OWASP ZAP, turn off Heads Up Display (HUD) or enable the HUD only for URL's that are in scope.
[NOTE: After I changed this setting, Firefox initially redirected from http to https. But this time Firefox allowed me to "accept the risk and continue," which wasn't possible when security.tls.version.min was set to 3. --end note]

Mozilla launched spreadthunderbird.com this week. Spread Thunderbird is the volunteer-run Thunderbird advocacy site where community marketing activities are organized to raise awareness and to promote the adoption of Thunderbird, Mozilla's Open Source e-mail application. The Spread Thunderbird site is powered by Drupal and uses the Acquia Marina theme. They are also using Mollom to protect their site against spam. Hopefully the site will be as big a success as spreadfirefox.com, which has been a Drupal site for many years.
