Not a Curtiss, but it is from the USA
 
Wright-Hisso or Hispano-Suiza 8 engine?

The prototype flew with a Hisso.  Production followed and they were fitted with Curtiss OX-5 engines, or the 180-hp Wright Martin Model E and a single example for an Australian customer was built with a Wright J-5 Whirlwind.

It is indeed it's quite a mess, my image cam from Airwar an is just captioned Hess Bluebird and there was no registration visible, but I believe it to be an H-2
