Very easy - but I'm more interested in your opinion on what the hell is happening with the exhaust pipe? Has he somehow misinterpreted a photo and "joined" the exhaust pipe with the wing root opening?

Hmm, yes it's obviously a Fiat CR.42 Falco and the artist has applied more than a little "artistic license" or what I would describe as a total lack of research or common sense (why would you expose the exhaust to the back-pressure of ram-airflow into a forward-facing scoop)? DOH!! There's so many good photos about, plus actual museum exhibits, that there's no excuse for that kind of mistake to what otherwise seems a good picture!! 🤐

It all started with a guy (ww2aircraft) convinced he could see gun pods on a CR.42....

I found a cutaway (somewhere on the net) that clearly shows a a triangular intake for what I think was an oil cooler - situated mid wing root.
Then I found this illustration. Certainly no guns but now that area is bifurcated??

Then I found evidence that guns in that area were never fitted/contemplated.
But I kept looking and found that rather bizarre take on what was happening in that complicated area by well renowned artist John Batchelor.
