Your route through to exam day includes a learning phase where you will focus on building a broad knowledge of the entire syllabus and more focussed revision phase where you will get ready for exam success.

As you move through these phases take some time to review the technical articles and topic explainer videos - these will help you develop broader insight into areas of the syllabus. We know some topics can be trickier than others. Paying particular attention to technical articles and videos on topics you find difficult is a good way of improving your understanding.

An important part exam preparation is planning and time management. Start by working out how much time you have until the exam and then allocate your time to learning and revision. Learning providers will have their own study timetables that you can use as a starting point. In the learning phase look at how many topics you need to cover and how much time you need to allocate for each topic.

Question practice is the key activity of the revision phase and practising exam standard questions to time under exam conditions is a great revision tool. To make the most of your question practice you need to then debrief your answers thoroughly using the model answers and marking guide.

Exam success is a combination of your technical knowledge and your ability to apply it to the scenarios and questions in the exam in the available time. Our exam technique resources will provide advice and guidance on applying your knowledge effectively on exam day.

You should aim to complete and debrief at least one full mock exam in your revision phase in the computer-based exam (CBE) environment. The Practice Tests in the ACCA Practice Platform allow you to complete full exams, based on past exam content, in the real CBE environment.

All study resources are the copyright of ACCA and can only be used for classroom and student use in preparation for their ACCA exams. They cannot be published in any form (paper or soft copy), or sold for profit in any way, without first gaining the express permission of ACCA. Nor can they be used as examinations, in whole or in part, by other institutions or awarding bodies.

Recorded exam revision and practice webinar are now made available with handouts so that you can view and become familiar with the style of questions that you may face in your exam and be better prepared.

I have decided to write the paper F5 and I have completed watching all the free lectures and attempted all the mcq tests given at the end of each lecture. Since practice is required to pass, I have purchased an ebook format of the revision kit from BPP

Since, this is my first time approaching an ACCA examination, I have no idea how to approach the revision kit, it is extremely overwhelming as there are many questions in it and I am having difficulty in starting to practice!

My approach with F5-F9 is to start my question practice with MTQs only. The exam kit divides the questions up into syllabus areas e.g. questions 1-14 are on costing, 15-27 are on budgeting, 28-40 are on variance analysis etc.

Ideally if you give 1 week to each syllabus area like what I have mentioned above you will be done with all of them in 1 month and the last two weeks you could do quick recap of everything and/or the BPP and Kaplan free mock exams available on the ACCA website ( if you are giving Computer-based exam).

I completed my ACCA exams while I was working, and like every other working professional out there who is trying to manage both studies and work, I have had my share of difficulties. Despite the long and tedious working hours, what kept me on track with my goal of becoming an ACCA Member was having a detailed timetable to follow before the examination. The timetable below is based on my personal experience while I had long working hours, and hence could be very much achievable from a third-person point of view. If you can follow the detailed plan below, you can easily attempt two papers in each sitting.

1. Write down your timetable on paper rather than creating an excel-based timetable. Additionally, make it a habit to tick the study goals you have accomplished during the week; I have found this to be the most useful mind trick as ticking off daily/weekly study goals does provide a subconscious sense of achievement, enhances your productivity, helps lower your procrastination and also assists in being as realistic as you can with your long-term study goals.

2. Start with subjects that require more understanding. Pick up unfamiliar topics when your brain is fresh as it enhances your ability to grasp easily and quickly. In my case, I attempted AFM and ATX UK in March 2019 and then attempted SBL and SBR in June 2019. My strategy was to combine one easy subject (AFM and SBR) with an unfamiliar subject (ATX UK and SBL). Per the timetable below, I ensured to cover the unfamiliar subject first (Paper 1), as personally for me, whatever I learned first had a better retention ratio than what I learned in the following weeks.

3. Customize your study schedule. Do you prefer studying one subject from start to end or switching between multiple subjects? Find out your study type and revise your schedule as you study. It is completely okay to re-plan and revise your schedule even after 2 weeks as you will require time and patience to understand how your brain functions to retain information in the best way possible.

Further, keep realistic timelines - If you are a morning bird, you may opt to study 2 hours before work or if you are a night owl like me, you may prefer to study 2 hours after you have finished your work and dinner. Understand when your brain has the best mental capacity to take in a good amount of information and customize your schedule and timeline accordingly.

4. Breaks are super-important and I cannot emphasize enough. Even if you are studying for 2 hours/day during weekdays, take a breather for 10 mins. However, you should refrain from using your phone during break time, instead, meditate or eat or drink water or just have a conversation with your family (limit it to 10 mins only).

5. Practicing mock exams (now CBE Practice platform) should not be understated. It is important to understand the expectations of ACCA examiners beforehand by attempting practice tests. While Examiner reports provide ample knowledge on such expectations and writing style; appearing a practice test aids in getting sample answers and detailed feedback from your Approved Learning Provider (ALP) tutors on your strengths and weaknesses over the subject which helps narrow down the focus on the key areas while writing the actual exam.

After bifurcating the planning, learning, practicing, and revision weeks above, you can customize your timetable based on your own intellectual capabilities, learning styles, and availability of resources. I have also mentioned in detail the subject-specific study tips below which can help you pass the examinations.

As previously stated in my Broadening your Global Reach article, if you have studied financial management topics like portfolio and foreign exchange risk management, share options, and pricing, capital asset pricing model, cost of capital, discounted cash flows, etc. this subject will be an easy one for you. The only thing to keep in mind is the technique of answering the examinations. Because ACCA has its own exam answering style, you need to prepare for it by practicing the exam kit questions.
