Hello again,
There is a new version of USFM.sty out, that allows \iex (introductory
and explanatory material for providing context to help people
understand the scriptures) to be used anywhere, not just before the
first chapter code as before. I think this is a great improvement, as
previously I had to use
\pi \add Here is the explanatory material
to be printed indented and in italics\add*
\p \v 6 and here is the next verse.
Now I can use \iex to mark the whole paragraph like that.
This version of Silas now provides much better help for installing in
Word 2007, and also help for using Word 2007 menus generally. You can
download it from:
http://code.google.com/p/silas/
and click on the link to Silas-v2.103-1.02-Setup.exe
I have also done extensive testing in all versions of Word from 97 to
2007, and fixed many problems with different versions, so I hope
you'll find it relatively trouble-free.
As well as formatting RTF files exported from Paratext or Translation
Editor, you can now transfer text with backslash codes from a small
computer like an AlphaSmart into a Word document and attach Silas, and
it will standardize the codes, fixing various problems transparently,
and then let you save the fixed SFM file, then it will go on and
convert those codes to the standard USFM styles and prompt you to save
that version as a Word document.
Kim has added a feature in the Scripture menu item, "Change line
spacing" that allows triple spacing, and within that you can have
extra space between words. This is useful if mother-tongue translators
are to write glosses and a free translation on a printout, in a
situation where they don't have acces to a computer that can run Adapt
It, Toolbox or Flex to do the glossing.
If you have any problems with Silas, please fill in the details in the
text file that will open if you go to the START menu, then Programs
then Silas then Report a problem with Silas.
(By the way, to help people use Word 2007 with less stress, Microsoft
provide a graphical tool in which you can operate a mirror of the
Word 2003 menus, and it will show you how to achieve the same effect
in Word 2007.
You can download it from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100744321033.aspx
and click the link
"Download the Word 2003 to Word 2007 Interactive Command Reference
Guide")
With the hope that Silas serves you well,
Jim
