Administrative updates
Thanks to our growing community and increased number of activities, SIGTURK has increased its active number of officers to five through a constitutional change. We congratulate our member Aziza Mirsaidova who has volunteered and been elected to fill this position. We are humbled by the efforts contributed to our community and to extend its influence to better serve the computational linguistics in Turkic languages.
Research activities
With the completion and establishment of its administrative infrastructure, SIGTURK is ready to start working on one of its important foundational objectives, which is the development of an open-source, interpretable, reusable and extendable software library that will serve the development of resources and tools for the natural language processing of Turkic languages. If you have any experience or interest in open-source software development, please feel free to contact us to join the new working group or attend one of our weekly meetings 12:30 pm to 1:30pm on Mondays (EDT) (except for the last Monday of the month).Upcoming events
SIGTURK is excited for the possibility of organizing an international workshop where our members can meet and find opportunities to collaborate. We will shortly be starting the planning and discussions of an ACL Workshop in 2024 and prepare a workshop proposal. If you are interested in joining the organization committee please get in touch with the officers or join our Monthly General Meeting from 12:30 pm to 1 pm on the last Monday (EDT) of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for the 31st of July, 2023.
The SIGTURK Newsletter aims to promote and distribute knowledge across communities that could benefit from the progress in computational linguistics in Turkic languages.
