Dear SIGTURK members,
We are happy to start a monthly newsletter serving to bring recent updates from our community to you. Please find information related to our activities and interesting opportunities below.
Research activities
SIGTURK kick-starts weekly Research, Discussion and Reading meetings 12:30 pm to 1:30pm on Mondays (EDT) (except for the last Monday of the month). The meeting will serve to discuss recent research developments in our area and our ongoing research projects.
We are currently working on evaluation and establishment of best practices for using large language models in Turkic languages.
If you’d like to propose a paper or a new research direction to discuss together please feel free to use the sigturk-bib or join any of our meetings.
Administrative updates
SIGTURK constitution is updated to increase the number of officers in the executive committee from 4 to 5. We look forward to accelerated progress in achieving the goals of our special interest group. If you’d like to actively participate in SIGTURK, you can always join our Monthly General Meeting from 12:30 pm to 1 pm on the last Monday (EDT) of each month.Upcoming events
SIGTURK is planning to participate in the Universal Dependency Turkic treebanks workshop to be held in Istanbul on September 8, 2023. If you are also interested in attending please fill the form by June 11, 2023 and feel free to get in touch before/during the workshop.Opportunities
KUIS AI Lab at Koc University, Istanbul has several openings for fully-funded Ph.D. and M.S. student positions in the scope of the project titled “Automatic Learning of Procedural Language from Natural Language Instructions for Intelligent Assistance”. If you are interested you can contact project leader Asst. Prof. Gözde Gül Sahin.
