Faronics Deep Freeze helps eliminate workstation damage and downtime by making computer configurations indestructible. Once Deep Freeze is installed on a workstation, any changes made to the computer - regardless of whether they are accidental or malicious - are never permanent. Users are still able to store their documents, pictures, music, etc. to a Thawed (unprotected) partition or drive. Deep Freeze provides Windows, Mac, and Linux systems with immunity from many of the problems that plague computers today - inevitable configuration drift, accidental system misconfiguration, malicious software activity, and incidental system degradation.

Now, the crux of the issue. Deep freeze's write protection only works once loaded. So you are correct in your assumption that if you load code before deep freeze standard routines will work for you just fine. You could even load a filter at a greater priority, intercept certain writes and persist them before deep freeze even sees them.

As to finding code that would get you started, vbootkit 2.0 was a proof of concept (aside from inserting itself it didn't do much) "bootkit" designed to compromise windows vista x64 pre boot. It has disappeared from the internet on looking for it this evening, but if you can find a copy, that will give you a starting point. It is, however, complicated. I'm writing a filter driver right now (blame AviD) and getting it right is hard. I don't know of any code that deliberately targets deep freeze specifically, though.

This still returns an object that can't be changed, but keeps all the read-only functionality of it. If you really need, you can drop the Object.freeze and implement the required traps (set, deleteProperty, ...) in the Proxy, but that takes extra effort, and that's why the Object.freeze comes in handy with proxies.

The first real world implementation that could use freeze is when developing an application that requires 'state' on the server to match what's in the browser. For instance, imagine you need to add in a level of permissions to your function calls. If you are working in an application there may be places where a Developer could easily change or overwrite the permission settings without even realizing it (especially if the object were being passed through by reference!). But permissions by and large can never change and error'ing when they are changed is preferred. So in this case, the permissions object could be frozen, thereby limiting developer from mistakenly 'setting' permissions erroneously. The same could be said for user-like data like a login name or email address. These things can be mistakenly or maliciously broken with bad code.

LAUDA Versafreeze freezers offer maximum sample safety due to high thawing times, even in the event of a power failure. The standard integrated accumulator ensures that the display of actual temperature and alarm functions is maintained for a period of up to 60 hours. Locking systems down to the individual drawer and inner compartment provide protection for high-value and critical samples against tampering and access.

With a tailor-made test assembly by the company LABOSTRUCT from Guntramsdorf, Austria, the freeze-thaw resistance of the construction material concrete has been tested in the accredited Versuchsanstalt für Bautechnik Wiener Neustadt since the end of 2009 more economically and with absolutely standard-compliant temperature cycles in a Memmert TTC temperature test chamber.

Concrete samples are frozen a total of 56 times to a defined temperature drop ramp to -20 C and after two to four hours, heated up again to 20 C. At the end of the test cycles the loss of mass in the samples through weathering is determined along with structural change, using ultrasound examinations. To date the freeze-thaw resistance test has been a long and expensive procedure. Again and again samples had to be brought from the freezer chest to a waterbath in which warm water at a constant 20C has to rinse the concrete components during the 8-hour thawing phases.

The temperature ramps can be conveniently set via the Celsius software or stored on MEMory Cards. Additionally, programmed contacts take over electronic control of the watering procedures, i.e. the synchronisation of the watering with the thawing phase, as well as the draining of water prior to the start of the frost phase. Of special importance to those responsible at the Research Centre was the comprehensive logging and documentation of the entire testing process, including, and apart from the time cycles, the verification that all temperature ramps are exactly standard-compliant.

The UK labour market remained in a deep freeze in early 2021, though the sharp increase in vacancies in March ahead of retail and outdoor social activities reopening in April suggest it is starting to thaw at last.
