Hello everyone,
has anyone tried this card with signal K?

Are there step-by-step instructions for installation / configuration?

Thank you!
Toni

Antonio,

Is this HAT optically isolated? Connecting to 2k backbone has 12vdc. What protection is there for back feed voltage spike to protect Rpi?

Hi Antonio,

This board doesn't appear to be isolated, however the two channel version is.

Mark.

Hello Mark,
any news about your tests? Form my side, the red hat is correctly connected by the server, but there isn't any way to see any data.
Question: in the Connections - configuration panel, I have to choose the Nmea2000 source from Actisense, iKonvert, canbus etc. What 's the right choice?
Many thanks,
Toni

Hi Toni,

     I haven't had an opportunity to look at it yet, extremely busy at work.

Hello,
CAN HAT is perfectly running now, very easy to install and configure, at the end.
If someone need, I can publish the steps to do.
Thank you, ciao

Thanks for the effort to test this.   I would be interested in the steps and the specific can hat you’re using.

Hello Brad,
the CAN-HAT used is this:
You find it also on AliExpress. There is also the isolated version:
I don't know it, but it should be the same, at software level.

Configuration requires 3 steps:
1. add two lines to /boot/config.txt

dtparam=spi=on

dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0,oscillator=12000000,interrupt=25

2. add or edit the file /etc/network/interfaces.d/can0

and copy inside this 3 lines:

auto can0

iface can0 can static

bitrate 250000

3. Go to CanBus panel of OpenPlotter, go to MCP2515 and add Connection.

On SignalK, you will find a new connection with ID can0, Nmea Source canbus(canboatjs) and Interface can0

Both from CANBUS panel or from terminal you can see the traffic. From terminal, the comand is: candump can0

Have Fun!

Toni
