In about a week the project is going to get a good press bump from Yachting, Southern Boating, and Practical Sailor magazines. There likely will be some additional press about Signal K coming out the the METS show. One of the things I want to do is to include in future articles the names of projects and apps that are, or are planning to support Signal K. The Practical Sailor article has a sidebar list of these to the best of our knowledge. If you are currently supporting, or planning to support/adopt Signal K in the future I would like to create an ongoing list here of these projects. The name of project or app, a brief description, and a contact point. This will be used for inclusion in future publications. Thanks

Applications can also be added to the list at http://signalk.org/applications_solutions.html.

I've written a little Android App, that would link to the iKommunicate gateway from Digital Yacht.  I've called it "SailStudio" but its not in any App store yet as the iKommunicate gateway is not out.  - I have been testing it with the node server from Signal K.

Its very simple, but I can add features if the demand is there.  It was really for me, so I could buy a couple of cheap Android 7" tablets and use them as display repeaters.

Here are a couple of screenshots (It was designed for landscape, but the emulator I was using is portrait.  It works either way)

This looks very nice! I'm really really glad to see new applications built on top of Signal K. Do you plan to make it commercial?

I see that you have picked sailstudio. prefix for values that I assume you calculate within Sailstudio. I would do it a bit differently myself, I'd use the standard environment.wind.angleTrueWater and indicate in the UI in some other way that the value was self calculated. Your choice will be a bit confusing if there happens to be that data already calculated by some device in the network.

Once you get a webpage for it or have it in Play store let us know and let's add it to the list on the site.

Just to answer those questions:

Commercial: Yes, eventually I will put it in the Play store - it will only be a nominal £3 or so, though that is not my main motivation!

You are 100% right about the prefix.  Well spotted.  In fact, it wasn't until after I had done that, that I realised I should/could have done it the way your describe.

The JSON message DOES have a "source"  built in to it, but unfortunately it is down the tree, so made life a bit harder once I have de-serialised the data. That is to say I would have preferred something like "source.environment......." rather than "environment.wind.x.source.NMEAxxxx"

The former would also be easier to filter (for example when in my app you choose internal GPS)

I will take a look, and re-read the docs, because I do agree that what you suggest is better, just not sure how I am going to do it!

Really appreciate the feedback.

Sounds like you are using http api, and not websockets. I think this kind of an application would better off streaming data and not polling. Source is included in the delta message.

Btw do you support Bonjour discovery?

I missed this response.  I am using Websockets - I just need to look at the source data a bit harder.  I haven't had a chance recently.

I haven't included Bonjour discovery, but I think its a good idea.  I'll add that to the list of things to do!

Hi Damian,

Nice work on the App.  I've added it to: http://www.signalkool.com/p/signal-k-products.html

Look forward to testing it, just have to find an Android tablet.

Cheers, Adam
