After reading some Signal K docs, and installing a server, I want to see if I understand correctly:
Each 0183 device needs to have its own adaptor since it is a simple serial device. So in order to connect 5 devices I need 5 adaptors?
Alternatively I can upgrade my boat devices to nmea 2000, and then a single adaptor would suffice? (or with iKommunicator I can attach 2 0183 devices and all the 2000 bus devices)

Thanks,
Dan

Yes.. mostly.

There are some 0183 multiplexers where several slow devices can be put on a faster serial port.
Some of these for example Shipmodul will also do the conversion to usb, ethernet etc so you can jump to your computer without another device.
