Hi all,
I am Gimhani Uthpala from Department of Computer Science and Engineering,University of Moratuwa,Sri Lanka as related to my introduction on the thread 'Novice-where to start contributions with'.

While currently I am working on another lowhangingfruit issue of sigmah code, I am interested in applying for GSOC2017 to project idea 2 on 'Easier project model management'.

I think based on the experience I am receiving while contributing and walking through the sigmah code, I could accomplish this project with my full commitment .

I am keen to know how I could go ahead with this project idea other than understanding the code.

Best Regards.

Hi Gimhani,

Sorry for late reply, but I was busy in the past two days with the training of a new NGO to Sigmah.

The best way to go ahead with this project idea is to go through all suggested issues, and ask questions on those issues if any through issue notes.

But be aware that an important part of our evaluation of students will be based on coding skills. So don't forget to also send pull requests on issues assigned to you. :)

Happy coding !

Olivier.

Hi Olivier,

How can I have a prior feedback on proposal ? And, is it okay to assign issues to myself or will you assist :)?
Thank you.

Hi Gimhani,

Student application period starts from 20th March, you will have option to submit the proposal as final or draft. Do select the share draft option which will allow the team to look into it and provide you relevant feedback. You can make suggested improvements if any. It's in the students' best interests to apply early.

Yes, It is fine if you want to assign yourself an issue but before working on it, talk about it here, confirm if it is ok to take it up(which depends on various factors like priority, target version etc of that issue).

Regards
Nikita

Hi team,

I would like to work on the low hanging fruit issue #791. Could I know whether this issue is okay to go ahead with?

Best Regards.

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for assigning the issue. And, I have added a draft proposal. Could you check if it aligns with the project idea you expected?

Best Regards.
