Dear colleagues,

You are invited to participate in MAHED 2025 Shared Task at the ArabicNLP conference 2025:

i) Text-based Hate and Hope Speech Classification,

ii) Emotion, Offensive, and Hate Detection (Multitask)

iii) Multimodal Hateful Meme Detection

The shared task will be held alongside the third Arabic Natural Language Processing Conference (ArabicNLP 2025), co-located with the EMNLP2025 Conference in Suzhou, China Nov 5-9,2025.

Tasks

Task 1: Text-based Hate and Hope Speech Classification

This task focuses on analyzing Arabic textual content to classify each input into one of three categories: 'hate', 'hope', or 'not_applicable', aiming to distinguish between harmful speech, positive hopeful expressions, and neutral or irrelevant content.

Task 2: Emotion, Offensive Language, and Hate Detection involves a multi-task classification of Arabic text to assess emotional tone and the presence of offensive and hateful content. The system must first detect the dominant emotion from a set of 12 categories (e.g., anger, joy, sadness). It then determines whether the text is offensive (yes/no). If offensive, the model must further classify it as 'hate' (identity-targeted) or 'not_hate' (casual or non-targeted). A key distinction is that while all hate speech is offensive, not all offensive language qualifies as hate speech.

Task 3: Multimodal Hateful Meme Detection

This task focuses on identifying hate speech within Arabic memes by analyzing both visual and textual components. Each input consists of an image containing embedded Arabic text, and the goal is to determine whether the combined content is 'hate' or 'non-hate'.
