Written by renowned cricket writer K.R. Nayar, this book is aimed at spreading the message that success comes through passion, dedication, discipline, and hard work. Gopal Jasapara, who launched the G Force Cricket Academy and has groomed many youngsters, narrates how the academy has gone about serving the game.

The book starts off with a detailed coverage of the recent tour of Mumbai, India, by G Force Academy, which was the 39th tour of this academy to a foreign country. There are inspiring interviews with Karsan Ghavri, TA Sekar, Ian Trott (father of former England player Jonathan Trott) Jimmy Adams, Jhulan Goswami.

Dubai: G Force Cricket Academy will stage a cricket Masterclass event from November 26 to December 3 with specialised coaches who have made a mark in fast bowling, spin and batting taking trainees under their wings at the DPS Academy.

Former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams, who is also the Kent Cricket County Head Coach, will conduct a two day master class for batsmen on December 2 and 3. Twelve promising cricketers from India are also being flown in to take part in this specialised coaching event.

Hunt for talented fast bowlers, skillful spinners and able batsmen at the grass root level is expected to also help Javed to have a look at players who can be groomed to play for UAE. Cricketers wanting specialised coaching from experts can email to gforce...@gmail.com.

The Twenty20 format was invented by England to attract the audience whose inclination to watch football was more than cricket. The main goal of this format was to entertain the crowd who were weary watching a sub-standard quality of international and county cricket.

India won the inaugural World T20 in 2007. The enchantment of this format on Indian masses caused the marketing gurus in the BCCI with Lalit Modi at the helm of affairs to tweak the format and make it commercially successful. Thus, the Indian Premier League was born.

Every edition of the tournament showcases innovative shots by batsmen who strategise and excel. The strategy followed by Douglas Marillier and Tillakaratne Dilshan is to exploit certain unmanned areas on the ground and frustrate the bowlers.

The IPL has captivated the audience and the players for different reasons. While the fans are enthralled to watch big hits and big runs in the shortest format; the huge money involved in the game is what attracts the players. The young batsmen want to imitate Chris Gayle and A.B. de Villiers and rise to fame. The hard work involved in perfecting the skill and understanding of the game is missing.

Gayle backs his instincts. He is not perturbed by the pitch or the bowling combination of the opposition. He gauges the bounce of the pitch and chooses a bowler to unleash his powerful strikes. He attacks with venom, hitting straight or pulling over leg boundary. He sometimes attacks two main bowlers with brutal force due to which the others lose confidence even before they bowl.

On the other hand, de Villiers is known to swoop the length ball back of the stumps area. He initially creates gaps to play ground shots and after settling in, plays his range shots with ease. Unlike Gayle, he is a quick runner between the wickets.

The young batsmen are fascinated by these players and their fame. The starry-eyed players lack the understanding and approach with which these shots are played. They think that a heavy bat with thick edges is the key to score big runs. This is the reason why we see a 14-year-old with such bats.

A couple of years ago, under-19 World Cup champion, Unmukt Chand was considered a replacement for Virender Sehwag. He is a confused young man not having a distinctive approach. Even the personal coaches of some of these young batsmen confess that the mindset of their ward is to only learn the methods of T20 batting.

The overall quality of the bowling is so low that when a bowler bowls a maiden over in a longer format, the fielders on the plot rush to commend him even if he has bowled four out of six balls outside the line of stumps!

The technical committee of the BCCI under Sourav Ganguly must address certain contentious issues to save young Indian bowlers. The under-19 players should not be allowed to play in the IPL. These formative years are vital to master the technique. The focus has to be on learning the subtle nuances of the art. At the moment, we are encouraging rollers of the ball and not spinners!
