Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a sentiment analysis corpus that includes the original posts along with their associated comments or replies. My main requirement is that the corpus preserves this conversation structure, as it will serve as the basis for a new pragmatic annotation study. Existing sentiment annotations are a plus, but my primary interest is obtaining the post–comment data for further annotation.

If anyone knows of such a dataset or can point me to one, I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hi Amany,
You haven't mentioned whether you need a corpus in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or in one of the Arabic dialects. However, I think the (AMC) corpus developed at Lancaster University may be helpful. It is compiled from online Arabic book reviews (MSA & Egyptian) and includes  sentiment annotations, and semantic tags.

Hi Reham,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. Actually, either Modern Standard Arabic or dialectal Arabic (e.g., Egyptian or Saudi) would work for my research. My main requirement is the structure of the dataset rather than the variety of Arabic.

Specifically, I need a corpus where each main post is associated with its comments/replies, similar to social media discussions. For example, a main post such as:

followed by the corresponding user comments. This post–comment structure is essential because the annotation will focus on pragmatic phenomena that depend on the interaction between the original post and its responses.

I actually had a look at the AMC corpus, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to include this post-comment conversational structure. Thanks again for your suggestion, though - I really appreciate it. If you happen to know of any corpus with this kind of discussion thread structure, I'd be very grateful for the recommendation.

Hi Abdelhakim,

Thank you for sharing the dataset. I have already checked it, but unfortunately it is not what I am looking for.

Specifically, I need a corpus where each main post is associated with its comments/replies, similar to discussion threads on Facebook or Twitter/X. Having sentiment annotations would be a plus, but the post-comment structure is the essential requirement.

The following is just an illustrative example of the type of data I am looking for. The actual corpus does not have to follow this exact format; it can be stored in any format, including a database, as long as the relationship between each post and its corresponding comments/replies is preserved.

If you happen to know of any Arabic corpus with this kind of post–comment structure, I'd really appreciate your recommendation.

regards,

Amany

Hello Amany,

Check out Reddit, it has exactly what you are looking for, it has a very diverse set of topics since people have anonymous profiles. I believe they also have an API, you'll have to check.
Posts are found under under "subreddits", e.g., r/Egypt, r/Khartoum, r/Arabs, ... etc

Salam
