الحمد لله رب العالمين

I'm pleased to announce that I have officially been awarded my *PhD from
the University of Sussex!*

My thesis, *"DeformAr: Rethinking NER Evaluation through Component Analysis
and Visual Analytics,"* is now available here:

https://sussex.figshare.com/articles/thesis/DeformAr_rethinking_NER_evaluation_through_component_analysis_and_visual_analytics_a_comparative_case_study_of_Arabic_and_English_NER/30738047?file=59918408

The core goal of this work was to *highlight the bias in current
NLP approaches* and propose a new diagnostic framework that, *inshallah (إن
شاء الله)*, will accelerate this research area for Arabic. This should save
future researchers the time needed to reach similar conclusions and allow
others to directly build upon this work.

The diagnostic framework and component decomposition ideas presented
can be *generalized
to any NLP task and model architecture.*

I am grateful to *Nizar Habash, Karim Darwish, Camel Lab, Benjeeba,* and
everyone in this group. I have learned a significant amount from you all
that helped me during this journey; you were the light that I could see at
the end of the tunnel. I also thank *Walid Magdeed* for his invaluable
comments and corrections that shaped the thesis into its current form. I
appreciate everything.

I am keen to *collaborate* with anyone interested in applying the framework
on their experiments. If you are interested, please get in touch!

*Allahumma Taqabal.* (اللهم تقبل)

Congratulations ya Ahmed!

Best regards,
Nizar
