Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI)
The Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is focused on research in computer science and artificial intelligence with the twin aim of supporting the transition of Qatar to a knowledge-based economy and having a global impact in select computing research areas.
Founded in 2010, QCRI has rapidly developed into a globally recognized research authority in Arabic Natural Language Processing and Generation, Cybersecurity, Health Informatics and Social Computing. Most recently, QCRI is known for spearheading Qatar’s AI sovereign initiative including the inhouse development of Fanar, a leading Arabic-centric AI Multimodal model. Several research projects from QCRI have incubated into successful commercial and sustainable ventures with global footprints. QCRI has played a pivotal role in the analysis of data from the Qatar Genome Program and creating clinical risk scores for underrepresented middle eastern populations. Underpinning the applied mission of QCRI is strong foundational research in artificial intelligence, data management systems, cybersecurity, and bioinformatics. On the policy front, QCRI has worked closely with the government of Qatar on national level initiatives including the development of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity strategies. Currently, the institute has four groups with strong cross-collaboration history:
· Arabic Language Technology (ALT).
· Cybersecurity (CS)
· Qatar Center for Artificial Intelligence (QCAI)
· Research Engineering (RE)
Positions Available
QCRI has several openings across both the Scientist and Engineering tracks in all groups
Scientist Track
We are seeking researchers with a proven track record in original, technically rigorous AI research and the vision to design systems purpose-built for the challenges unique to Qatar and the broader region. Strong candidates will have publications in top-tier AI and data science venues. Positions are offered at the Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist levels — broadly equivalent to Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor ranks in academia. A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline is required.
Engineering Track
We are seeking skilled technical staff with the ability and ideally a demonstrated track record of working across the full AI stack. Engineers collaborate closely with Scientists to develop innovative AI systems grounded in original research or driven by stakeholder needs. Positions are available at the Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and Principal Software Engineer levels, with placement determined by relevant experience: typically, two years for Software Engineer, five years for Senior Software Engineer, and ten years for Principal Software Engineer. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline is required.
