Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to share that our new book chapter has just been published:

Tian, Z., Sembiante, S. F., & Khote, N. (2025). A Translingual Functional Pedagogical Framework for Developing Content Area Literacy: An Elementary Language Arts Example. In L. C. de Oliveira (Ed.), Applying a Functional Approach to Language Development in Teaching the Content Areas to Multilingual Learners in K–12 Classrooms (pp. 117–132). Emerald Publishing.

In this chapter, we bring together the affordances of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and translanguaging to propose a Translingual Functional Pedagogical Framework (TFPF). We illustrate how integrating translanguaging pedagogies across the Teaching and Learning Cycle (TLC) can help multilingual learners acquire, understand, and demonstrate content area literacy in culturally and linguistically sustaining ways.

The chapter is available here:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/397799236_A_Translingual_Functional_Pedagogical_Framework_for_Developing_Content_Area_Literacy_An_Elementary_Language_Arts_Example

Please feel free to share with colleagues, educators, and anyone who may find it useful.

Warm regards,
Zhongfeng Tian
