This week we meet Mohammed Yassin Mohdabashaar, Lecturer at Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Thailand. His research interests include Translanguaging, English as the Medium of Instruction and Second Language Acquisition.

1. What is your current role and what does it entail?
Currently I am a lecturer at Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Thailand. We are assigned to teach and conduct research. Research is compulsory and it can be with lecturers within the same campus or outside the campus.
2. What sparked your interest in translanguaging and/or inclusive education?
I realized it is impossible to isolate ethe students’ first language in their learning process even in English classes. It helps achieving several pedagogical purposes within the classroom.
3. Which professional achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
As a fresh university lecturer and a researcher, one of my gratifying achievements is conducting and publishing research articles in Scopus journals independently or with other scholars. I learned how to conduct and publish quantitative and mixed methods studies by my own.
4. Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do list?
I am doing research about how the foreign teachers are weaponizing the students’ L1 to facilitate the teaching and learning processes.
5. If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
I would advise my younger self to embrace curiosity and the willingness to explore different paths especially in implementing different research methodologies without the fear of failure. I've realized that setbacks often lead to valuable lessons and personal growth.
6. Who has been a significant influence in your life?
My PhD. advisor professor Vibha Sharama and my colleague Asst. Prof. Chaimporn Buddharat.
7. What is something about you that would surprise people to know?
I completed my PhD in English literature and subsequently transitioned my research focus to the field of applied linguistics and English language teaching. While my doctoral studies provided a strong foundation in literary analysis, my current research pursuits center on the practical applications of language within educational contexts. I conduct research and publish scholarly work that specifically explores the roles of the students’ L1s in their content and language classrooms. I also love to investigate the benefits if integrating educational technology in English language classrooms. This shift reflects my commitment to advancing the field of language education through empirical research and contributing to the development of effective teaching practice.
