Dear Members of the SIG,

It is my pleasure to share this paper, co-authored with Dr. Miaomiao Zuo, that is published in "Linguistics and Education" (SSCI-indexed Journal; 2023 Impact Factor 1.6). This virtual ethnographic research examines how an ESL teacher utilizes diverse multilingual and multimodal resources to facilitate students' L2 English learning in real-time online tutorials and develops his translanguaging competence over a 10-week period.

We argue for extending the notion of e-Classroom Interactional Competence (e-CIC) as we suggest that translanguaging is a constitutive feature of e-CIC which entails online teachers drawing on multilingual and multimodal resources strategically for constructing new configurations of pedagogical practices and achieving their specific pedagogical goals. The study highlights that classroom interaction inherently involves translanguaging, and strategically utilizing multilingual and multimodal resources can enable online L2 teachers to create a virtual space that promotes their specific pedagogical objectives and enhances students' L2 learning process.
