Dear Members of the SIG,

I would like to take this opportunity to share this new paper, co-authored with Junlong Li, published in “English Teaching & Learning” (SSCI-indexed, 2022 Impact Factor 1.6). This paper presents compelling evidence that Chinese university EFL learners exhibit a notable inclination towards embracing a bi/multilingual Classroom Language Choice (CLC) approach. This approach effectively integrates strategic use of the learners' L1 to enhance content comprehension, while ensuring adequate exposure to the target language, thereby fulfilling students' intentions to learn English as a foreign language.

The study emphasizes the significance of conceptualizing a "multilingual self," which underscores the need to establish adaptable bi/multilingual learning environments. Such environments facilitate the cultivation of motivational coherence between learners' L2 aspirations and the utilization of the classroom language.
