We are pleased to invite everyone to the Virtual Symposium for the Study of Generative AI and Literacy. This free, half-day virtual symposium will be held on Thursday 22 October, 2026 (1pm-5pm BST; 8am-12pm EDT).
This collaboration between the Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy (University of Toronto) and the Lancaster Literacy Research Centre (Lancaster University) aims to take the next step in understanding literacies and literacy practices that account for generative AI’s influence in secondary and undergraduate contexts.
Presenters will share data- and theory-informed conversations that build on related literacy traditions (e.g., New Literacy Studies, Academic Literacies, Multiliteracies, etc.) to consider what experiences, perspectives, knowledge, and pedagogies are needed now that generative AI is a prominent influence in our classrooms.
We have an exciting assemblage of presentations scheduled from a diverse group of scholars. The symposium will feature panels of speakers. We will end the day with an exciting conversation with discussant Prof. Kevin Leander. The full symposium schedule is attached for your reference.
We would be delighted for colleagues with a mutual interest in literacy, technology, pedagogy, and generative AI to join and learn with us.
