Dear colleagues,

Qianqian Zhang-Wu and I have just published a new article on translingual writing (see attached), which I thought might be of interest to this group.

Tian, Z., & Zhang-Wu, Q. (2026). Beyond pajamas: translingual writing as 战袍 for voice, desire, and resistance. Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, 1–15. https://doi.org/10.1080/15427587.2026.2676865

In this article, we reframe translingual writing not as “pajamas”—something seen as too casual for scholarly work—but as 战袍 (zhànpáo), an intentional and context-sensitive ensemble for voice, desire, and resistance. We also propose a five-level framework (linguistic, rhetorical, epistemological, methodological, and structural) to make translingual practice both principled and practicable across contexts.

We would be glad to hear your thoughts.

Best regards,
Zhongfeng
