Dear Members of the SIG,

I am Karen C. K. Choi, a PhD Candidate of Language and Literacy Education at the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong. I would like to share a recently published article that I co-authored with my primary supervisor, Prof. Kevin W. H. Tai, with each and every one of you. The article titled “Cross-curricular connection in collaborative digital multimodal composing process: Insights from translanguaging and transpositioning perspectives” is published in Language and Education

This study employs translanguaging and transpositioning perspectives to explore how students in a Hong Kong secondary school English-as-a-second-language (ESL) classroom create a translanguaging space while completing a collaborative Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC) task. Employing the combination of Multimodal Conversation Analysis and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, the findings illustrate that the students create a translanguaging space for cross-curricular connection, where they connect knowledge and experience gained in Mathematics and Science subjects in their collaborative DMC process during ESL lessons. We argue that the process of creating cross-curricular connection could be achieved through translanguaging and transpositioning. We also argue that such a space could challenge traditional classroom configurations and transform students’ learning experiences by empowering them to exert greater control over their DMC design, recognise the interconnectedness of academic knowledge, and take an active role in making their learning more meaningful and relatable.

Dear Karen,

Congratulations!

Thanks for sharing your recently paper co-authored with Prof. Tai. I read it with great pleasure. The paper is well-written supported by very solid argument. It is always encouraging to see such meaningful contributions that bridge theory and practice while also expanding our understanding of language education from the translanguaging perspective.

Wish you continued success in your research journey~

Best,

Renxiang
