Dear Enactus Alumni,

Hope this mail finds you in the best of health and spirit. We are thankful for the interest shown by you all during Nostalgia 2014 and look forward to your continued support.

Today India is moving forward towards growth,prosperity,improved health and hygiene.Our honorable PM Dr Narendra Modi aims at an India where women our empowered in every way safety,freedom of thought,equality and their hygiene.

We at Enactus Somaiya Social Cell have brought forth Project Prerna, an initiative  'of providing the underprivileged women living in slums an economically independent and hygienic life.'

We plan to bring this idea into a reality by setting up a manufacturing unit to produce low cost - high quality sanitary napkins at Nareshwadi Learning Centre, Dahanu, Maharashtra. The project will employ women from these rural areas giving them a sustainable means of earning. The product will be sold in Areas in and around Dahanu as well as in the slums of Mumbai through the efficient network of Asha Workers and other Self - Help groups. 

We are glad that we have received a great amount of support for Project Prerna from various organisations and our esteemed Alumni.

1) We have set up ties with Aakar innovations. They will be providing us the machinery for the unit and training to our beneficiaries to operate the unit. They have successfully implemented similar projects in Dahod, Gujrat., Latur, Maharashtra., Danaput, Bihar and many other places.For your reference -http://www.aakarinnovations.com/

2) WEIF (Women's Empowerment International fund), Canada have shown their immense support by funding a part of this project.

3) We have also received grant from Walmart Women's Empowerment Grant  in the year 2013-14.

4) We are immensely thankful that some of our alumni have shown great interest and support in Project Prerna.

This project has now been kick-started and the manufacturing unit set - up is expected to be completed by Dec 2014 and manufacturing is expected to start immediately thereafter. We are still in need of all the support we can receive. We urge you to contribute generously to this cause.

The faith of our alumni in this endeavor of empowering these women keeps re assuring our faith and gives us strength.

I would request all of you to come forth and help us keep this idea and initiative  moving forward and help empower underprivileged women.
