Position:    O&M cluster assistant

Location:   Freetown

 

PowerGen Renewable Energy is a micro-grid developer, implementer, and operator in West Africa, reshaping the prevailing rural electrification model in the region.  PowerGen is creating an African energy system that utilizes clean, renewable energy and smarter grids to deliver power to all. We work with the latest decentralized technologies to monitor and control our systems remotely, providing power to 40 sites and 12,500 customers across Southern and Eastern Sierra Leone from our office in Freetown.

 

PowerGen Operation and Maintenance (O&M) team strives to optimally serve customers through ensuring that assets achieve optimal performance levels.  The key to a successful operations and Maintenance process is working to prevent issues before they occur, but when problems do occur, having established processes and resources for diagnosing and resolving those problems quickly and safely, with limited electricity interruption for customers.  In order to continuously improve customer experience, the PowerGen Operation and MaintenanceTeam determines what activities must be done to ensure that all physical assets continue to operate optimally while maximizing technical uptime, optimizing customer satisfaction, and minimizing cost.

 

As the O&M Cluster Assistant you will be a key member of the PowerGen Operations and Maintenance  team. You’ll be focused on supporting our customers who use electricity from our mini-grids each day through a network of sites Technicians.  You will report to the  Snr O&M Associate, and will work closely with the entire Operations and Maintenance  as well as Customer team.

 

What You’ll Make Happen:

A more complete – but by no means exhaustive – list of responsibilities is provided below:

 

●  Ensure that system performance through remote monitoring platforms and on-site reports are optimal and any issues flagged is resolved as soon as possible; this include but is not limited to  troubleshooting, performing checks and maintenance on minigrids (solar PV systems and distribution network) which will include working on PV arrays, inverters, electrical components, cabling,; LV/MV distribution lines with smart metering Technology.

 

●  You’ll support with creating SOPS, keeping all documentation such as trackers up to date , running processes and work plans to ensure smooth and efficient operation in the O&M team.

 

●  You’ll robustly and proactively monitor generator operations to minimise operational cost while maximizing system uptime


 

●  You’ll be responsible for addressing and solving unplanned problems either remotely or on-site, which are either identified by system monitoring or reported by the Field technicians (i.e. Power asset problems, asset vandalism, distribution network issues, smart meters, etc.).

 

●  When dealing with unexpected issues, you should establish a comprehensive understanding of the issue through detailed fact-finding and implement an established procedure for correcting issues in a timely fashion.

 

●  You will also be supporting periodic maintenance; Quarterly, six-monthy and annually

 

●  You will work with various PowerGen stakeholders to identify an issue and solve it correctly.  All unplanned maintenance activities should always be based on thorough root cause analysis to ensure that the failure does not re-occur.

 

●  You’ll be responsible for providing feedback in a standardized manner to the Snr. O&M associate - including sites operations, summary of issues, resolution steps, challenges. Etc

 

●  Ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures, objectives and regulations and the commitment to achieving Zero Harm through safe behaviours on site

You Already Have:

 

 

●  Ability or passion to manage a team of at least 15-20 people

●  Basic Administrative skills for a team’s operations

●  Ability  or  passion  to  train,  manage  and  ensure  Technicians  are  observing  safety standards while working

●  2+   years’  work  experience  in  operation  and  maintenance  services,  preferably  in above-ground distribution, PV solar installations, and/or generators.

●  Technical Electrical background and a demonstrated ability to learn the specific technical aspects of the PowerGen business.

●  Fluency in English, both in written and oral communications.

●  Sierra Leonean citizenship or a valid Sierra Leonean work permit; experience working in

Sierra Leone is a must.

●  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail a must.

●  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, word, etc).

●  Flexibility and eagerness to lend a hand wherever needed, even if a specific task may fall outside the core job description.

●  Enthusiasm in working for the field of renewable energy!

●  A  Diploma/degree  in  Electrical/Mechanical  Engineering  from  a  recognised  Technical institution.
