Hello Sierra Volunteers.

See the email below inviting new volunteers to short Zoom mtg about the newly formed  SPG Conservation  Teams. Two times are available - Sunday evening (tonight) and Monday evening. Same agenda - which is:
  • Introductions - new volunteers, conservation team leaders
  • Volunteer roles - what do we see volunteers doing on these teams
  • Feedback and Questions - what are we missing?
  • Next Steps
We didn't want to leave anyone out from this list of volunteers in the greater Philadelphia area - no matter how long you have been with us. We have new challenges in 2025. We will do what we can to preserve our piece of the planet for future generations.

Thanks for everyone's support.

Jim and Sidney

Thanks so much for your interest in joining our team and your willingness to act to protect our environment. We want to connect you with the Conservation Team Leaders as quickly as possible.

Meetings

To get started, let’s all meet together for an overall review of our active conservation topics on Sun/Mon. Then continue with monthly or every other month conservation team meetings. And also communicate via email. We can create a new Google Group for SPG Conservation stuff, or use the sierra-philly-volunteers list.

Feedback

All of the pages under SPG Conservation are new. We’d really welcome your feedback.

What are we missing? Anything we got wrong? How can we make the pages more useful and interesting for people like yourselves?

What is your specific interest and is there any particular aspect you’d like to work on

Homework

Here are some suggestions to get started. Respond to any that you would like.

  • Clean Energy - find out if your city/township/borough has a Climate Action Plan

  • Plastics - does your city/township/borough have a single-use plastic bag ordinance?

  • Air Q - look at the map on PurpleAir.com. Is there a monitor near where you live? What color is it (green, yellow, red)? Check back at a different time of day to see if it changed.

  • Transportation - do you need a car to get to work, school or for local errands?

  • Public Lands - what is the last public park you spent time in, and how long ago?

  • Sustainable Industries - do you know where that Amazon truck that delivered your package came from? See if you can find out.

  • Gardens - do you have an opportunity to create or expand a garden at your house? Is there a community garden nearby?

  • General - have you ever met in-person or on Zoom with an elected official to talk about environmental topics?

Remember these are just suggestions. If you cannot join either of the the Zooms, don’t worry we’ll include  you in future discussions about Conservation Teams and Volunteer Opportunities.

Thanks again.
