Hello, Express-mates!
Sorry that time has passed for so long since my last address. So many
things have happened, places visited, people born (Hi Bethany &
Justice!), and races run. First, let's focus on what is upcoming
versus looking backwards (which should be done sparingly unless you
happen to be directed to run up box cart in reverse). One of our
members, Estel, has been battling cancer but you would not guess it
looking at her or even listening to her future workout plans.
Constantly, and despite best efforts that are somewhat unsuccessful,
this woman has had to be to wrangled and restrained from pushing
herself too far (LISTEN to your friends, Estel!!). I have to admit
that there is a bit of luster missing from our workouts without
Estel's grandiose smile and energy there, but she is still there in
spirit. While Coach is glad on some level to be missing that
additional person to question his authority, I know he misses her
too. So, as a club, let's come together to help one of our own
through difficult times. At our upcoming Saturday workout (May 28th),
we will run together for Estel. We will be meeting at the northeast
corner of the park (by the sundial). We will have blank bibs for you
to write your own number/message on that will be given to Estel
afterward. Donations are welcome. Estel has played paramount roles
in organizing our club banquet and offered to plan future get-
togethers as well. I feel we should come together for Estel and show
her how her spirit is appreciated, loved, and unparalleled.
The following month (June 18th), we will hold our first (what I hope
to be an annual event, if not more often) club picnic/BBQ. All
members are welcome and invited. If you are one of the sandbaggers
who have not paid your annual membership dues ($20 for January through
December folks, not from the month you paid), we will allow you to pay
for your membership there on site, with minimal chiding from Coach
Ray. Come watch some of our big-mouthed club members get shot down by
the club President in the Oreo eating contest. There will be other
activities as well so good times will be had by all.
AND THEN....yup, good times-a-coming!! Saturday August 6th, the club
is paying for a charter bus to take paid (catching a theme here????)
members to run in the Angels Island 12K & 25K trail race. Go to
envirosports.com to register then email me to get added to the bus
list. These trips have filled up in the past so do not hesitate to
join us on this fun-filled trip.
How cool a club are we?? Supporting members, scarfing Oreos,
traveling to far-off destinations. Let me say that we are lucky (and
I am very lucky to be leading it) to have our club. If there is
anything that you would like to have done/added/considered, the board
of directors is here for you. Just email in comments/suggestions
anytime you feel like it. So thanks. And I'll be sure to post
something sooner than later for next time.
Just run,
Scott
