Electric Cylinder - ROBO Cylinder equipped with ball screw, linear guide, and AC servo motor. New generation of a lower price electric cylinder that provides a convenience function, like high rigidity, acceleration, or speed control, which based on a know-how of single axis robot at the same time keep the price to the same level of rod less air cylinder.
The ERC is easy to set up and operate because the controller is integrated into the motor compartment. Just connect the actuator to your PLC with an I/O Cable, supply it with 24V DC power, and you're ready to go! Even without connection to a PLC, you can verify movement and Position Complete inputs with the teaching pendant or PC software.
Complex movements can be performed swiftly with either the Slider type or Rod type, thanks to a maximum of 8 positioning points. Also, the ERC is equipped with standard functions such as Pause and Zone Output, making difficult operations for air cylinders look extremely easy.
The ERC utilizes a highly accurate ballscrew usually available only in more expensive actuators. Compared to a leadscrew, a ballscrew features less frictional resistance resulting in minimal wear. Smooth operation and highly accurate positioning can be maintained over the long term.
EleCylinders have built-in controllers and two positions are freely selectable. Due to the high travel speeds, EleCylinders are best suited for short cycle times. However, like all other electric actuators, they can also perform slow uniform speeds over the entire travel range.
The RoboCylinder and IntelligentActuator series make up the largest part of IAI's product portfolio. The RoboCylinders focus on meeting common customer requirements. They are more favourably priced than the linear drives of the IntelligenActuator series. These meet significantly higher requirements for speed, acceleration, positioning accuracy and payloads.
Compared to pneumatic drives, electric actuators offer a whole range of advantages: They are insensitive to load fluctuations, enable smooth jerk-free starting and stopping, simple speed regulation and the control of different positions with the highest repeat accuracy.
The sustainable energy efficiency, the significant cost savings over the entire life cycle of the production plant and the outstanding technical advantages in motion control are clear arguments for substituting pneumatically driven actuators with electromechanical cylinders.

Cylinders include air cylinders that use compressed air and hydraulic cylinders that use oil pressure. Both air and hydraulic cylinders are driven by fluid supplied from one or both sides. In contrast, robo cylinders are powered by electricity.
Robo cylinders are designed for linear motion and operate on a single axis. Unlike air cylinders, which typically position at two or three points, robo cylinders can freely position within their stroke range.
Robo cylinders find use in various applications, such as processing, assembly, conveyance, and packaging equipment. They offer significant energy savings over air cylinders, which often lose efficiency due to piping resistance. Robo cylinders consume approximately one-tenth the power of air cylinders.
Additional benefits include reduced shock on stopping, shorter tact times, simpler design and manufacturing, and versatility with different products. The term "Robo Cylinder" specifically refers to the electric actuators developed by IAI, designed to replace air cylinders effectively.
