President Waldmann called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm
She thanked VP Joe Sicilian for conducting the March meeting and all the Executive Committee members who helped out.
President Waldmann led the Pledge of Allegiance. She also urged members to purchase 50/50 tickets.
President Waldmann announced that Dean Curry is stepping down as Treasurer and Steve Schwall will continue acting in his place until we elect a new Treasurer.
President Waldmann announced that the Club will hold nominations to fill the position of Treasurer at the May meeting.

Joann reported that seven people recently paid dues. She also reported that members over 70 don't have to pay dues.
She reminded members that she is still collecting dues.
President Waldmann mentioned that she was happy to see a lot of younger people at the meeting.
Approval of Minutes
Marguerite made a motion to approve March's minutes and it was seconded by Joe Sicilian
The motion carried. President Waldmann thanked Teresa who took minutes for Recording Secretary, Marie Dwyer.
She also thanked Marie Dwyer for her work as Secretary.
New Business
President Waldmann announced that DORC is planning a fundraiser with possible dates
September 30th, October 1st or 2nd.
Paul Scublinsky reported news that Congressional Candidate, Allison Ziogas
(NY 11) suspended her campaign for Congress.
Paul mentioned that Mike DeCillis is running and that it might be too late to substitute another candidate for Allison.
Paul also mentioned that Senator Jessica Scarcella Spanton (District 23) and NYC Comptroller Tom Di Napoli are both facing primaries.
Guest Speaker Alexis Rodriquez
Candidate for State Senate 24th District
Ms. Rodriquez told members told members that she is a dedicated school teacher and she loves working with kids. She is running because she feels middle class families, homeowners, city workers and small business owners are carrying more of the burden while receiving less in return.
As an educator, Ms.Rodriquez sees first hand how state decisions affect classrooms and working families.
Ms. Rodriquez's focus is on literacy development, data driven instruction with integrated co teaching settings.
Ms Rodriquez told members she is the daughter of immigrants. She spoke about her education and background.
Her front line experience informs policy priorities: strengthening public schools,
protecting homeowners from unstable tax increases, improving infrastructure and supporting public safety.
Ms.Rodriquez spoke about the need for the fast ferry and light rail.
Expanding yellow school bus services for students.
She also spoke about fixing Tier 6, property tax and assessments and ICE.
Ms. Rodriquez wants voters to know that her campaign is built on transparency, community engagement and measurable outcomes.
After her presentation, Ms. Rodriquez took questions from many members in attendance.

Congressional Candidate for NY 11
Mr. Decillis mentioned that Allison Ziogas dropped out of the race due to health concerns. He thanked her for being in the race and wished her well.
Mr. DeCillis spoke about building bridges and trust with his campaign.
He said he is a 4th Generation Staten Islander,
and 3rd generation union member. He has worked for 35 years in public service.
Mr. DeCillis wants to bring decades of real world experience to represent us in congress.
Mr. DeCillis spoke about his education, background and experience.
Mike DeCillis is running for Congress because he feels our democracy is disappearing in real time. He wants to build guard rails to protect our rights and ensure the government serves everyone.
Mr. DeCillis spoke about many issues that the district faces including high expenses, lack of affordable housing, Healthcare and that we need to shift the tax burden.
He says we need to return democracy back to congress and re-assess the legislative authority destroyed by the federal government.
Mr DeCillis wants to make sure congress functions as intended.
He mentioned that he has an excellent campaign team with strategies to defeat his opponent.
Mr DeCillis spoke about the role of the federal government in regulating pollution.
He spoke about too many policy changes with each new President.
Mr. DeCillis spoke about economics, civil rights and abolishing ICE.
He also spoke about decreasing the defense
budget, dealing with foreign adversaries by rebuilding bridges and applying good diplomatic skills.
After the presentation Mr. DeCillis took questions from members.
Alexis Rodriquez told members that the Richmond County Civic Association is looking for support regarding digging up the Fresh kills landfill.

Omar Mohamad. Candidate for 23rd Senate District
Mr. Mohamad plans to run a primary against incumbent Senator Scarcella-Spanton
He told members he is running to fight for affordable neighborhoods, universal health care and safety for Staten Island.
Mr. Mohamad spoke about his education, background and experience.
He wants to represent working families.
Mr. Mohamad also wants to fight to lower utility prices for consumers by supporting public legislation such as the Public Power Democrat act and the NY Heat Act.
After he spoke he took some questions from members.
The winner of the 50/50 was Tom Shcherbenko
