Hello All

I am here to share with you details on Monday’s guest speaker: Andrew Savage

GUEST SPEAKERS: Andrew Savage, UFT

( Nanci Richards, UFT tentative guest)

Co-hosts of the popular podcast “Left in the Forgotten Borough”

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-in-the-forgotten-borough-podcast/id1754435198

At 25 years old, Andrew Savage served as the 2013 President of the Young Democrats of Richmond County, demonstrating his early commitment to political activism. Today Andrew co-hosts the popular podcast “Left in the Forgotten Borough” with Nanci Richards. The podcast aims to highlight the liberal voices on Staten Island, what is often perceived as a conservative borough, exploring local issues and perspectives.

As an educator, Andrew has been passionate about teaching and advocating for teachers’ rights. In a 2016 article, he eloquently discussed the challenges facing educators, highlighting the increasing pressures and demands of the teaching profession. His commitment to education extends beyond the classroom, as he has been vocal about supporting teachers and addressing systemic issues in public education.

Andrew is a special education teacher who holds a bachelor of arts in history and secondary education, as well as a master of arts in history. He holds a second Masters Degree in School and District Leadership and Supervision from Bank Street College. He was a UFT Chapter Delegate and Executive Board member from 2015-2018.

Andrew was the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History’s New York State History Teacher of the Year in 2021 for a project he did with my students while we were in remote learning inspired by FDR’s Fireside Chats.

See you all Monday night!
