There was no "iPad hardware" so that's why it is posted in "iPhone hardware") I recently took my 12.9 inch iPad Pro 6th gen to a mobile repair place to get it fixed because the screen cracked because my (less expensive) iPad 6th gen fell on top of it. It cracked the screen up near the top right of the screen. The face ID sensor was not effected by the crack.
I then took the iPad pro to this repair place because they were the only people that would fix it. They said that they would have to use a second-hand screen from last year because Apple hadn't released the new one yet. They installed the new/different screen which cost about $600 (they didn't really specify that it was second-hand at first but anyway). As soon as I got it home, I started to find problems with the new/different screen. There were strange ripples and a lot of pressure points on the screen. I tried to ignore the problem in the hope that it was just the screen adjusting. The problem never fixed its self. After that, we brought it back and asked them to put in a new/different screen. They said that they would do it for free since they did it wrong the first time.
When I went to drop it off, they said to wait a few minutes, so I did. After about an hour, they said that there was a problem with the face ID sensor and that I would have to leave it with them so that they could fix it.
After about a week, I rang them up (even though they said that they would,) and asked what was taking so long. They said that they would not fix the face ID sensor because Apple hadn't released the diagrams. They said that they had "shorted out the sensor" and that "it could happen at any moment", which I highly doubt. They offered to pay $100 in compensation, even though I think the repair is going to be a lot more. Although I haven't asked, I doubt that they would pay Apple to fix the screen for me for free. I can not use the face ID at all now. I even looked at it with a modified camera that can see inferred light and there is no light at all.
I would appreciate your help in finding out what the repair cost is to go through Apple or another repair company (that actually fix the problem and not created more damage). I also do not have apple care cover. I also live in Australia so repair services are a bit more limited. This is the link to their website if you were interested:
At this point, the best course of action is going to be having your iPad inspected in person by an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. These are the only service centers that are licensed to work on Apple devices using genuine components. Repairs performed by untrained individuals using nongenuine parts can result in issues with the safety and functionality of your device which can end up causing you more of a headache down the road. It sounds like that may be the case here but the good news is that your nearest location with certified technicians would be more than happy to take a look at your device and work out the best way to get everything working again.
So, my 7 year old niece dropped my brand new ipad pro 12.9 inch 4th generation wifi with cellular 128 gb on the concrete basketball driveway outside and destroyed both the front and back of the device. Since coronavirus apple stores are closed and I needed to open an applecare request and send the device back via UPS to get fixed. So, I did that. I paid the $49 dollar ipad pro full replacement fee since I am an applecare plus member like all my devices and they received and repaired my device on thursday last week, but still its sitting on "your device is repaired" we will let you know when we ship a replacement product. Usually this takes 1 hour inside an apple store, its now been 10 days without my device that i use daily for an essential job. And I am a little frustrated. Anyway know what the normal time frame is on mail in repairs for ipad pros?
So, all in all Apple truly only took 6 full business days and those full days included: sending my ipad pro to them, replacing it, and sending it back to me. So, I will have to upgrade my experience to EXEMPLARY customer service and a great deal. 49 dollars to fix a 1300 dollar ipad that my little 7 year old neice destroyed and apple did it in only 1 extra day 6 business days instead of 5 business max days during a pandemic. If I hsce sny problems with unit I will update you all tomorrow but so far so good! thanks everyone! great news! and great job apple!
We are end users like you with no access to Apple records. As James says, you'll need to contact Apple. Understand that the virus situation has meant that items that used to be repaired in-store are now al mail-in service, so I think it reasonable to expect their mail-in system to take longer
thanks allan, apologies I thought this was aforum of tech advisors from apple. Its just alittle frustrating because when I sent the device in it said the average time was 5 days including sending and receiving the device, they also said once the device is confirmed received it is an immediate one day overnight mail shipment. I am an essential worker and require this device for my job so I just wasnt expecting a 2 week wait when their support website clearly says 5 days to and from
Well, you have to remember that these are extraordinary times and the pandemic has caused major havoc everywhere, so you cannot expect everything to be as it was. Apple also no doubt wants their employees safe, so it is probably a reduced workforce. Everyone needs to exercise patience.
I agree and affirm all of your statements since my store practices the same routine. But my point is, had I would have known it wouldve taken 2 weeks, I would have decided to choose an alternative repair option, use the functioning broken screen phone temporarily until a quicker solution was offered. The pandamic instructions on the phone from the apple repair tech was this is a very quick process, overnight shipping to us, overnight shipping back to you. Takes usually less than 5 business days from start to finish to get your replacement.
That is all I am saying. if I was given correct advice, during the pandemic I would have held off on sending the device in. You done have to tell me to heed patience, I lost BOTH my healthy and happily married 78 year old aunt and uncle two weeks ago, and my 31 year old best friend 4 days ago to this virus. I have plenty of experience with heeding patience
thank you, just got off the phone with applecare and he was the response. They apologize but since everyone is using mail repair they have ran out of ipad pros in my spec. So, I need to wait for them to produce more. So what do I do? keep paying my att data bill on a device that i cant use?
You can call AT&T and explain the situation to them and see if they will give you one month free. Or call Apple back, ask to be transferred to Customer Service and see if they will give you a $15 iTunes Gift Card for your troubles.
deggie thank you for being very helpful and polite. But i am not one of those people that want freebies, If it was up to me I would donate the 15 dollar gift card to someone who can really use the money. I was thinking of maybe uprading this to higher tech support and seeing if they will allow me to pay a little money to buy something else with more GB that is in stock.
You were the one complaining about paying you AT&T bill, that would just be a payment for the inconvenience and having to pay the bill and various fees in case AT&T would not waive your payment. You can contact Customer service and see if they will let you do the swap that you propose.
I was thinking maybe asking them to pay a little bit more and get an upgraded device with more space or just work something out to get something shipped back faster do you not think that is a good idea?
