Last week, the Senate sent Bill C-12, the rights-violating, dangerous and xenophobic Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, to be studied at committee. Under government pressure, the Senate has voted to limit the study of the bill to just two weeks, which is much too short to consider a bill of this scope and impact. We have updated our action so that you can email members of both Senate committees that are studying the bill to share your concerns with this so-called "democratic" process as well as urging them to protect rights by stopping Bill C-12.  Please click below to take action! Reminder that Bill C-12 will make us all less safe by:  Allowing for the mass cancellation or suspension of immigration documents and applications (ex: visas, permanent residency cards) for entire groups of people, including individuals from certain countries, based on undefined “public interest” reasons.  Authorizing the sharing of sensitive personal and immigration information, putting people at risk in Canada & abroad.  Blocking anyone from seeking refugee status in Canada after one year from when they entered the country—even if they are studying here, it was just for a short vacation years ago, and their home country has become dangerous in the meantime.  Increasing the harm arising from the Canada-US Safe Third Country Agreement, which abandons many refugees to the dangerous U.S. immigration system. Transforming the Canadian Coast Guard into a security force that engages in “security patrols and the collection, analysis and disclosure of information or intelligence”; another example of unjustified and unnecessary national security creep.  Doubling down on prohibition-based drug policy that has demonstrably failed to protect public health & safety. Updated action: Tell Senate committees to stop C-12!
