Hi,

I saw a link which had version 4.0FT.

Should I download the .iso and install this?

What is the most recent version is there a 5.1 version and what are the linux Kernel versions that these have?

Thanks for any info and continuing to support these machines.

Cheers

We're running the 4.0FT on our 5832. I'd mainly recommend against it,
not due to particular problems with it, but the added complexity of
the mixed gentoo/redhat system. IIRC the previous release was 100%
gentoo.

The important features from 4.0FT were mainly scale related, at least
as far as I can recall. So they would probably not be a big deal on a
smaller system.

You're pretty much in a henry ford sort of regimen with the kernel.
You can have any one you want, as long as it is 2.6.18.X.

Narayan is entirely correct.

Someone who wanted to hack could create a modern kernel. If I remember correctly, the main
impediment to moving forward was Lustre, and if you don't care about that then it ought to be
possible to add Sicortex patches to a more modern linux-mips.org kernel. It might be a big tar pit
or it might not.

I'd swear that Peter had gotten things more or less working on 2.6.23
(except for lustre), but those bits seem to be lost to the ages.

So I should keep using my 3.1 version is that the consensus?

I would leave it alone.  If there is something specific that you want to upgrade (other than the kernel), you can use standard gentoo tools to
upgrade per package.  Just look at the sicortex package files to see if there are patches for mips or sicortex.  Most packages won't need any.

Of course only do this on a different root filesystem, just in case!
