Digitalsignals are still susceptible to interference. Even if you live in a area with strong signal, adverse weather conditions can affect your signal quality. You may experience small glitches in the picture or more obvious signs where the picture is deteriorating.
When you perform the initial setup of your TV, it is important to make sure that you are receiving the correct TV signal from your local TV transmitter. This can be done by choosing the correct regional selection. Otherwise, you may find that you are missing channels or cannot view certain programmes due to a weak signal.
Please note: if you are recieving signals from more than one transmitter, you can choose which one to use. You can do this by going to Support > Auto Tuning > Regional Selection
You may not be able to see the Regional Selection screen if you only recieve signals from one transmitter
Aerial splitters
These allow two TVs to operate from the same arial but reduce the stength of the signal available to both TVs.
Signal booster / Amplifiers
These devices can work well, but some amplify everything, including noise and interference. It is best to ensure that your aerial is correctly installed and aligned first, before relying on a booster or amplifier.
I have the Roku ultra 4800R and the picture quality looks to be more soft or cartoon looking on some shows I stream. I thought it was just amazon, but noticed it on some other streaming shows. I notice that if I stream the same content though my Blu-Ray player, it does not look like this and is clearer and sharper looking. I have a 32 inch Sony TV that does not support HDR or Dolby vision. I bought this better player to have faster launches and better quality. By the way, my TV is does not support any 4K video, but 1080p max. I can not find how to change any video settings, except the auto input and refresh rate. Is there any other setting that I am missing or is this Roku wrong for my type of TV? Thanks
I returned the Roku Ultra and got the Express+ and that fixed the picture problem. Apparently, my TV was affected by the Dolby Vision and they may have been a setting or something to turn it off, maybe not, they do not have phone service and chatting makes it very hard to explain in detail what is wrong. That is why I went here to see what everyone thought. Apparently, nobody really knows here and doing a lot of looking up stuff online it is the Dolby Vision that is clashing with my TV. That is what I got out of it. Feel free to tell me otherwise.
Overall picture resolution setting on your Roku:
Settings > Display type. You may want to set to the actual resolution of the tv instead of the "auto" setting. When you get to the countdown screen click on the "yes" option to lock it in.
Note that some channels use adaptive transmission that reduces the image resolution when it detects net slowdowns that would cause buffering at full resolution. You may be able to reach settings for this by logging into your account at such a channel.
That did not change anything. I am going to try the Roku LT to see if there is a difference in the picture quality. Funny thing is, when it plays a great quality video or plays YouTube, the quality is great. We have 75 MPs and should be plenty for it also. The. Videos always start the way it stays though out the shows. I tried my Blu Ray player to stream the same shows and they are clearer. We have the Roku 2 in the main family room and it is not doing this. Strange.... Tell me if I should follow through to getting the Rou LT and if that will make a difference. Thanks
I have read alot bout media players like Roku and WDTVbut it appears that almost every piece of hardware out there does not support .MTS (AVCHD) files. Which is insane to think Canon sells HD camcorders that saves in a format that isn't supported anywhere...Maybe they should make their own Smart TV or media player...of course that's beside the point.
So far PLEX seems like the easiest solution, but I wanted to get the forum's opinion. My main concern is that converting/transcoding video into new formats will lose HD quality. Similarly, I'm concerned that streaming my videos on TV through WiDi does not provide the same HD experience. With that being said, would PLEX be any better that those other options?
Well ,first you should know , if you compress your video, no matter what format you convert to , it will defenitely has the quality loss, even you will not notice by your eyes. But you can improve it manually. During your conversion , (whatever converter app you use), it may have the option to let you imporve the Bitrate and Frame rate. That two will help you improve the quality. But try to keep the balance between those two or you will get some blurred video.
It's frustrating to find that most media players don't support .MTS (AVCHD) files, especially when Canon's HD camcorders save footage in this format. It seems like a missed opportunity for Canon not to have their own compatible Smart TV or media player. Perhaps they should consider it. On another note, if you're looking for something else to download, you might want to check out Castle PC, which is available for free.
I can understand your frustration and we do appreciate the feedback regarding the file format that some of our camcorders use to record video. In the meantime, the best option for viewing video files recorded on the camcorder would be to connect the camcorder directly to the television with an HDMI cable,
Yesterday I bought a new 65" Samsung NU8000 tv and hooked up the formuler box to it. Now I don't know if its the size of the tv but I can clearly see the choppiness and blurriness in the picture now. I assumed getting a new HDR tv will make the picture better but everything looks worse now. When I preview the channel it looks flawless in the guide menu but the second I go full screen the quality drops big time. Is this how its suppose to be? I was trying to watch the basketball game but you can notice the imperfections so clearly I couldn't enjoy it.
I played around with the settings and made sure I have the highest resolution turned on and I do. Am I doing something wrong? Is this to be expected? Why is the small preview in the guide menu look so good but the big screen so bad?
I think I've found the fix. It seems to be an issue with the Android TV software in the Sony Bravia TV. I had my TV set to Update Automatically, but it seems that wasn't really the case. You have to manually update the Android TV software by going to the TV's home screen, Settings, Device Settings, About, System Update, Update Manually. After doing that, I can finally watch Apple TV+ with a 4K stream without glitches.
I had trouble at first finding how to force the relevant software update. My Sony Bravia (model KD65A1, purchased March 2018)is a Google one and last year I could not even install the Apple TV app. It wasn't offered in the Google store. Then in January this year I discovered it was now available and so installed it to be able to watch Bad Sisters. When it was unwatchable I, I searched for help and stumbled upon this thread, and by switching to SD only was at least able to watch the series with minimal picture problems.
I thought my TV was set to automatic software updates, so when I checked last week to see if problems had been resolved by an update (as other writers had found) and discovered they weren't, I was puzzled.
Looks like the issue might have stemmed from Apple/Google compatibility issues perhaps. And in future I will check for software updates manually rather than assuming Sony will supply them automatically.
having the same problem! I've watched Ted Lasso in what I wouldn't even describe as pixels, just coloured blurbs interspersed with video for 5 episodes now. Reminds me of streaming bad quality videos in the days of torrent
Many thanks to behickey for pointing out that Update Automatically doesn't always do what is implied and that a manual update to the latest appropriate firmware for your Sony Bravia may fix the Apple TV pixel problem - it fixed mine. Here is my story. My Sony TV is a KD-75x780f (2018 model from Costco). Step 1 - Hit HELP button on Sony remote. The existing software version appears on the upper right of the screen underneath the model number. Mine was PKG6.6555xxxx. Write that down. Step 2 - Using the internet, navigate to Sony.com. Step 3 - Choose Business & Products. Step 4 - Choose Electronics. Step 5 - Choose Consumer Electronics. Step 6 - Choose TV & Home Theater. Step 7 - Choose Smart TVs. Step 8 - Choose Product Technical Support. Step 9 - Search for KD-75x750f (obviously you would search for your model). After Step 9 I was at the KD-75x780f Model Support Page. Step 10 - navigate to the Downloads tab. Appearing on my laptop, once I hit the download tab, was a Firmware Update v6.7220. There was an option to view all applicable models for this Update and mine was among them. Step 11 - download the update file. Step 12 - follow the instructions on the download page for methods to manually install the update.
