Aussie singer and breast cancer survivor Kylie Minogue has been told by
doctors "not to perform in the immediate future" because of a chest
infection and will cancel her next two shows, according to a statement
issued by her record company.
Minogue, 38, struggled to sing onstage in Manchester, England, Jan. 13
and walked off after 45 minutes, citing the flu.
Her label, EMI, released a statement saying that because of "a
moderately severe respiratory tract infection, doctors have insisted
that Kylie Minogue, 'Not perform in the immediate future.' Accordingly,
Monday and Tuesday night?s shows will not take place."
Minogue cut short the two-hour Manchester gig but re-emerged with her
sister singer Dannii Minogue for a duet, but then abandoned that
performance.
Her record label insists shows scheduled for next Thursday and Friday
will proceed as planned and the canceled gigs will be rescheduled.
"Whilst we await the all clear from her doctors we wish her a speedy
recovery and hope to be able to confirm her return to the stage soon,"
said the EMI statement.
Minogue was forced to postpone her original Showgirl world tour after
being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005. She underwent immediate
surgery in her birthplace of Melbourne, Australia, and continued with
treatment in France, near the Parisian home of her French boyfriend,
actor Olivier Martinez, 41.
The tour, which features a series of lavish costume changes, was
rebooted in Australia in November. She performed 20 times in Sydney
alone before returning to England for a New Year's Eve gig in London.
