Q: How do I use it?
A: Open the checkra1n app, and follow the instructions to put your device into DFU mode. Hax happens auto-magically from that point and the device will boot into jailbroken mode. If you reboot the device without checkra1n, it will revert to stock iOS, and you will not be able to use any 3rd party software installed until you enter DFU and checkra1n the device again.

Q: Is it safe to jailbreak? Can it harm my device / wipe my data?
A: We believe jailbreaking is safe and take precautions to avoid data loss. However, as with any software, bugs can happen and *no warranty is provided*. We do recommend you backup your device before running checkra1n.

Q: I have a problem or issue to report after jailbreaking.
A: Many problems and bootloops can be caused by buggy or incompatible tweaks. Remember many tweaks never saw iOS 13 in the pre-checkra1n era. If you suspect a recently installed tweak, you may attempt to enter no-substrate mode by holding vol-up during boot (starting with Apple logo until boot completes). If the issue goes away, a bad tweak is very likely the culprit, and you should contact the tweak developers.

Q: Where are the sources? I want to write a dark-mode theme and publish the jailbreak as my own.
A: checkra1n is released in binary form only at this stage. We plan to open-source later in 2020.

Q: Why do I still have jailbreak apps present after I used the 'Restore System' option in the checkra1n app and rebooted?
A: This is a known issue with how this functionality works. The apps are not installed anymore, but their icons may stay on the homescreen until iOS rebuilds its icon cache (which we have no control over in non-jailbroken mode).

This is unofficial site of checkra1n for windows. All product names, logos, and brands are property of official checkra owner checkra.in. All company, product and service names used in this website are for identification purposes only.

A: checkra1n is released in binary form only at this stage. We plan to open-source later in 2020. We will release the full checkra1n source once we have a Windows GUI version. We had hoped to get there in 2020, but we didn't manage to. But PongoOS, the kernel patchfinder and the SEP exploit are already open source on GitHub.

The iRemovalRa1n Pro jailbreak is essentially a copy of the checkra1n jailbreak ported over to run natively on Windows. Compared to checkra1n for macOS and Linux, this tool was not developed by the CheckRa1n team.

Normally, the checkra1n team announced a Windows port of checkra1n a while ago, but it looks like they got stuck on the drivers aspect of checkra1n on Windows a few years ago and never completed the project. To this date, iRemovalRa1n is the only checkra1n clone to work on Windows natively without having to boot a Linux environment.

iRemovalRa1n Pro runs like a normal Windows program and can detect the device and jailbreak it directly from Windows, no need to reboot to Linux or a different OS (like checkn1x used to do). The interface of iRemovalRa1n is basically a clone of checkra1n with just some text changed, so if you know how to use checkra1n on Linux or macOS, the same applies to iRemovalRa1n.

Since this is a checkra1n jailbreak port/clone, it supports the same devices that checkra1n supports. Basically, iPhone X and older are all supported, while newer devices are not supported. Here are some of the supported devices:

Devices like iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XS are all unsupported by both checkra1n and iRemovalRa1n Pro.

So, it's possible to start the checkra1n program in WSL (1), but it sadly WSL 1 doesn't support USB. With WSL 2 that would be possible. If this is the case, you would be able to open checkra1n on Windows. Anyone having Windows on Insider built, installed WSL 2 and willing to try to make USB work (yes, I think it will require some work to get it going)? If so, can you try starting up checkra1n (using the commands this guy uses in his tutorial)?

Is there really no way to use checkra1n on Windows? Is there really no way to jailbreak iDevices on Windows PC? Is there really not a chance for Windows users to jailbreak using checkra1n on Windows until the developers finally work out?

We could not just sit and wait, without a doubt. We have to find out our way to jailbreak our iOS devices on Windows PC. Luckily, we do have two methods to achieve it, which is exactly what I am going to introduce you in this article. To be clear, I am using iPhone 6s for the representation. But it shouldn't be a problem to use checkra1n to jailbreak other iOS devices if they are supported by checkra1n.

Since the Linux version we use is Ubuntu, go to On Debian-based distros module, use the APT repo on the website. This process is basically copying the repo I marked on the following picture to the Terminal windows one by one.

Step 4: Once the device has entered DFU mode successfully, checkra1n will move on to the next process automatically. From now on, all you need to do is just waiting until it is all done.

As you can see, it takes so much effort to jailbreak an iOS device all by yourself. And it's quite complicated, especially for green hand to Linux OS. With Cocosenor iBypass Tuner, you can easily create a checkra1n USB drive and jailbreak the iPhone in iOS 12-14.8.

checkra1n Windows was never officially released by the checkra1n Team, but there is iRa1n offering the same features for Windows users. iRemovalRa1n known as the checkra1n for Windows allows users to jailbreak iPhone 5s through iPhone X running on iOS 12.0 up to iOS 14.8.1. However, like checkra1n Windows also, iRa1n doesn't offer support for iOS 15 or iOS 16.

An alternative method to jailbreak your iPhone from a Windows PC using checkra1n involves utilizing a Linux-based distribution specifically designed for jailbreaking iOS devices, such as checkn1x. This approach grants you the ability to execute the original checkra1n jailbreak directly from your PC, making a real checkra1n for Windows alternative.

checkra1n for Windows uses the checkm8 exploit to access the file system on your iPhone and install Cydia among other necessary jailbreak components. Using checkm8 exploit, it is possible to execute the code only when connecting your iPhone or iPad in DFU mode to the computer via a USB cable. Running checkra1n for Windows in a virtual machine environment will not work.

checkra1n for Windows can be obtained in the form of a native iRa1n software, making it easily accessible for Windows users. Alternatively, if you prefer to use the native checkra1n app on a Windows PC, you can do so by utilizing a Live CD that can be booted from a USB dongle.

In this guide, we will walk you through the necessary steps to effectively utilize checkra1n for jailbreaking your device directly from your Windows PC. Prior to beginning the process, it is essential to download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows from the official Apple website. Don't use iTunes installer from the Windows Store version, because it will not work.

Initially, the early versions of iRa1n (checkra1n for Windows) featured an interface similar to the checkra1n app, complete with the familiar app icon. However, in more recent iterations, the Windows jailbreaking tool has undergone some changes in terms of its appearance. Despite the visual differences, the tool remains user-friendly and straightforward to navigate. Rest assured, even with the updated interface, the process of using iRa1n on Windows remains intuitive.

Please note that this particular version of checkra1n for Windows is designed to support iOS 12, iOS 13, and iOS 14 only. If you wish to utilize the underlying technology of checkra1n to jailbreak iOS 15 or iOS 16, I recommend using Palera1n Jailbreak instead. Palera1n Jailbreak offers compatibility with the latest iOS versions and provides a support for iOS 15 and iOS 16 devices.

checkn1x is a compact Linux distribution, occupying a mere 28 MB in size, specifically designed for jailbreaking iOS devices using checkra1n from Windows. It serves as an exceptional solution for PC users who prefer utilizing checkra1n for Windows to jailbreak their iPhone 5s through iPhone X models, operating on iOS 12 up to iOS 14.8.1. With its compatibility with a wide range of iOS versions, checkn1x offers a reliable option for Windows users to use checkra1n.
