No, the distributed modules all use OpenSeadragon as the default viewer. Universal Viewer is added as a module ( -KM/Omeka-S-module-UniversalViewer). I believe UV was initially distributed as part of the IIIF Server module but then the two were separated.
There is no option to disable the default viewer, so you have to disable it manually. So on the original file (see -s-themes/centerrow/blob/master/view/omeka/site/item/show.phtml), you have to remove or comment lines 16 to 29 and lines 34 to 41.

Ideally, the Universal viewer (and the other viewers I just published : Mirador and Diva) should be used by default when it is an image or an iiif, like it is with the pdf viewer, or the OpenDocument viewer. But it has some impact on other parts of Omeka S, so currently, they are only a view helper that can be added by theme creators.
Take advantage of the universe of IIIF-compliant viewers (and other tools), each with different features and benefits. You can try out some of the most popular options here, or explore more on Awesome IIIF, a community-built compendium of all things IIIF managed on GitHub.
The Universal Viewer was firstly developed by Digirati for the Wellcome Library, the British Library and the National Library of Wales, then open sourced(unlike the viewer of Gallica, the public digital library built by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, based on Mirador, which is sold to its partners).
For v3, an external repository was used in order to include the last versionof OpenSeaDragon, the main component that manages the zoom viewer (used in otherIIIF viewers), in order to manage IIIF v3. Run this command inside therepository of this external repository, then copy "dist" in directory "asset/vendor/uv3":
The display of 3D models is fully supported by the widget and natively managedsince the release 2.3. 3D models are managed via the threejs library.Nevertheless, see the readme of the module Three JS Model viewer for somepossible additional requirements and the supported formats.
In some situations, the SAS Universal Viewer does not launch. When this happens the Microsoft Event Viewer has an entry similar to the following: EventType clr20r3, P1 sas.univiewer.exe, P2 1.0.1.110, P3 4949f467, P4 sas.univiewer, P5 1.0.1.110, P6 4949f467, P7 84, P8 89, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL.
You might also see a pop-up window with the following message: Sas.univiewer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Anyone else had issues when updating to the latest versions of office and universal viewer?
This update happened 2 days ago for me (on oct 18). and since then the server literally slowed down like 70%. every app (plex included), everything really. So today I uninstalled everything that installed that day (which was Universal Viewer, Drive Server, Office, PHP 8.2). I believe the culprit was Universal Viewer. I kinda need Drive server back and it's tied to viewer, so if I install drive server it will install universal viewer.
Universal Viewer is a community-developed, IIIF-based viewer that has similar functionality to Mirador. Any IIIF content can be loaded and displayed in Universal Viewer. This recipe uses version 4 of Universal Viewer and integrates it into CONTENTdm in the same way as the other IIIF-based viewer recipes.
Reaching beyond your hospital walls, the XERO Universal Viewer brings together patient images from multiple imaging managers into a consolidated view, with a single Federated Network investment. Whether you are a clinician or a radiologist, you have the intuitive image access you need. Images from any AGFA HealthCare or validated third-party PACS or vendor-neutral archive (VNA) can be seen in one display, without switching application or viewer.
Medical information, such as physicians' descriptions, nursing records, and various examination reports, is stored separately in the subsystems of an electronic medical record (EMR). To provide efficient treatment, health professionals require a universal viewer that collectively organizes and visualizes this distributed information at each clinical phase (i.e., first outpatient visit, treatment, follow-up observation, etc.). This research investigates a method to enable physicians to easily browse relevant information at each clinical phase, and to reflect and verify information in a universal viewer. We analyzed the patterns of picture archiving and communication system (PACS) reference logs and EMR performed orders to identify relevant information. We found that by considering the locations of display terminals in addition to disease types (clinical departments) and clinical phases, more relevant information could be identified, and the contents displayed on a universal viewer were improved accordingly.
This is the fastest PDF viewer. Awesome for high graphics magagine kind of PDFs. I have a lower mid range laptop. Universal viewer throws sumatra, pdfxcange, foxit out of water when it comes to speed of loading one after another high graphics page. And it's the lightest of all the PDF viewers I have tested, uses minimal CPU unlike others I have mentioned.
It is good enough for a free and portable application. It seems to use existing installed file for pdf and word. Hope similar viewer which doesn't need pre-installed programs. I like the idea of universal viewer any way
Universal Viewer is not really standalone program, it is much better as lister (built-in viewer) replacement for Total Commander file manager. Being able to work on it's own is secondary for this program.
and i like this webpage, can post comments without having to register etc. thank you very much. i thnk i spent one whole day looking for just this type of viewer, simple, and can do graphics too. all that i need-just a simple right-click text and jpeg viewer
I must say that I don't quite see the point in this. I like the idea of having a one-viewer-fits-all solution for various file types. However, it apparently opens .doc-files using MS Word, pdfs using Acrobat Reader... This isn't any faster than using the associated programs in the first place. I also prefer Foxit and Sumatra PDF to Acrobat Reader, although it's not any more as slow as it used to be. With Word files, there's even a Windows security alert asking me if I want to open the "potentially dangerous" file "from the internet"... :o
sounds neat. Though..from browsing the authors' site, it seems to rely on "Plugins"...unless only for PDF viewing? hmm. Think it's easier just to pack Portable AbiWord/OOo + FoxIt PDF Reader ;) But that's just me.
Also, FYI, microsoft has some "viewer" apps available too, from
microsoft.com, I remember using a PowerPoint Viewer app years ago from there.
Universal Viewer is an advanced file viewer for wide range of formats.
Universal Viewer can be possible to open multimedia, websites, office documents, images, and many other file types using this single program. Once you've installed the program, you will be able to open any file from the Windows Explorer just right-clicking on the file and choosing the "Universal Viewer" item from the context menu.
The Xero Viewer recently received top honors from KLAS, with its 2017 Category Leader Award. This is the first year the healthcare quality research organization has included a Universal Image Viewer category. The Category Leader designation is reserved for vendor solutions that lead select market segments in which at least two products meet a minimum level of KLAS confidence. According to the latest KLAS Performance Report, Agfa HealthCare is one of two vendors offering universal viewers that are fast and reliable, and noted for continually improving their solutions.
Kennedy has seen few universal viewers that are advanced enough to completely replace existing technology. While IT departments can often make a persuasive business case for using the archive as primary storage, he says the clinical case is different. The bottom line is radiologists are being asked to read more studies in less time, and any new technology has to either fit seamlessly into their workflow or provide significant time savings.
The Universal Viewer used in DIBS for presenting documents is (to our knowledge) unfortunately not compatible with screen readers at this time. We are not aware of any IIIF viewers that are compatible. The IIIF community has made some efforts in this direction but there does not seem to be a solution at this time.
