The Junior Play Area is an important feature of the Jean Sibelius Park redesign.  On this topic, the Working Group has been getting informal feedback regarding plastic toys and the need for more swings.

Regarding plastic toys, there has been mixed feedback and we are looking for solutions regarding the collection of plastic toys, many that are broken, being left in the junior play area.  Some families are comfortable with the toys since the children enjoy them.  Others, feel they are unsightly and hazardous.  Last week, some of the broken toys were removed as well as the pre-toddler activity saucers.  Still, even with these items removed, there are a number of plastic toys in the junior play area.  Let us know your thought on this topic.

About the swings,  when the playground was designed and input from the community was offered, we indicated the need for swings which was an item on everyone's wish list.  The reason there are only two swings in the junior play area is due to CSA regulations regarding the space radius needed around play items.  Swings, even the two that are there, take up a lot of space.   Having the basket swing in the senior area was offered as an alternative swinging option.  We will continue to look at ideas for adding more swing options for the play area, but given CSA regulations, at this point, the issue is space.

On an unrelated note, with the completion of the building, the water feature in the junior play area will be turned on.
