Tribute to Nena Hardie

[Sibelius Square]

The Sibelius Square Working Group is a small group of community members some of whom began meeting informally in the basement of Nena Hardie's house at Brunswick and Wells to discuss community gardening in the beds of Jean Sibelius Square.  The role of the Working Group grew as plans for the Park's redesign required more attention.  Nena's role in the community discussion surrounding off-leash dog use in Jean Sibelius Square had a direct impact on the final decision to move the off-leash dog area out of the Park.  She showed courage in her convictions and was always advocating on behalf of Annex gardens and green space.  It is with sadness, that the Sibelius Square Working Group reports her sudden passing in September 2011.  She will be missed.
