Just as you have waited a long time for this update, I'd waited a long time for this visit from my son, David and his wife, Grace. How thankful I was to have them flee the snow and cold of Wisconsin for a short visit to sunny Florida! Grace definitely prefers Florida's weather to Wisconsin's, since it is a lot closer to her Philippine homeland's temperatures. (Also the reason, after almost 30 years in PNG, I prefer Florida weather to Missouri's.)
Before you write asking/commenting, yes, David is definitely taller than I, especially the height difference is augmented by cowboy boots and my age-related 2 inch shrinkage. (Shame that shrinkage doesn't happen in ALL directions, not just vertical.) At least Grace didn't make me feel short. I miss my 5'6" height of yester year. <sigh>
As the days fly by with little or nothing done on the Revelation lessons, I ponder the necessity of retiring by 70 or so--otherwise, how would you have time to help finance and occupy all the various medical facilities? Saying that, you have to understand-I am very healthy for my almost ¾ century years. So while I am doing my part, it is only a sliver of what many others are doing along those lines.
Thankfully, the surgery site dealing with the infection under my jawbone has healed well and we are just waiting for the jawbone to strengthen more before any new dentures are introduced that would allow chewing. The newest insertion date is the first week or so of April-yes, 2 months earlier than forecast before by the surgeon. And the implant doctor is busy right now constructing a denture capable of balancing on top of the 2 legged stool (one "leg" having been excised to give access to the infection near the bone) without creating torque that would snap the thin jawbone. Just 6-8 weeks and, the Lord willing, I'll be chewing my food instead of sipping it-hurrah!
After clumsily catching a toe on an ill-placed hassock, I almost donated a bit more time and money to medical establishments, falling and crashing down sharply on the edge of an end table. While two ribs in my lower right back have announced their displeasure at said mistreatment, knowing there is no treatment for broken ribs, I didn't go get x-rays. And, after five weeks, I'm slowly returning to normal activities. My normal exercise routines definitely suffered during the recovery time.
Cataract surgery on my left eye is still awaiting the eye surgeon who is familiar with the unique complications posed by that recalcitrant eye, which refuses to align images with the other one, unless it is allowed to be dominant. Hopefully the surgeon for whom we are waiting will soon have his practice up and running again.
Doing his part, my cardiologist has thrown in 3-4 appointments for tests to see if my heart is the culprit for some loss of stamina. Those will help fill any weeks on the calendar that are lacking other appointments.
Now-if you or one of your loved ones is over 70, then none of the above sounds particularly unusual. Actually, I'm very blessed to not have any conditions that cause major pain or even limitations (though driving is getting more iffy as the months roll by).
One thing all these appointments remind me of is this: pray for the Siawi people (and all other tribal folks), who have little or no access to medical care or even an aspirin for pain. My busyness is caused by my wealth and the many opportunities available to me. Yet it is much easier to get my supporters to pray about my medical issues than for the Siawi believers, as they battle superstition about the cause of sickness and death and have to watch their children and loved ones die without medical help. Please, please-pray for them as they are bombarded by the unsaved to let go of their new beliefs and go back to the old ways of appeasing the spirits.
Please continue to pray for the Siawi Bible Church leadership, that not only their words but their lives would reflect the truths of God's Word on which they are standing. May the Word come alive in their hearts, as the Holy Spirit gives them strength to withstand Satan's assault. God is faithful. Just as the words of 1 Corinthians 10:13 are just as true for the Siawi believers as they are for us. God will NOT allow them (or us) to be tempted beyond what we can bear and withstand. He WILL give us the faith and courage to stand strongly, if we want it. He'll not force it on us, but it is available. May they.and we.live clinging to those truths.
Thank you so much for standing with me-some financially, many through prayer, and some through encouraging words. Never doubt that God's help given through the prayers of his children are the most important part of that equation.
Rejoicing in the love and care of our great God and Savior,
Linda
