Checking back, this Siawi Snippets is only 1 day late, as far as meeting my monthly update goal is concerned. Somehow, it seemed longer. "Oh," you ask, "Is that because so much has been happening this past month, so that it seems like surely much more time has passed?" Well, no. It isn't that. Thankfully, my days have been pretty bland. (Isn't that what you pray for me? No, maybe not.)
Looking at my calendar, there are NO medical appointments defacing it until October 31. That should tell you how I'm doing--great! (Okay, you need to factor in age to understand the amplitude of "great," which has lower bars as the years pile on.) I continue to be thankful for good overall health. With the final eye checkup last week, I am now just awaiting the new glasses-mainly just bifocals for reading, but with a bit of correction for astigmatism. They probably won't get much use, since I can function very well without them.
Driving Miss Linda is also going very well. With the staff here at the Homes providing a weekly grocery run for those who need transportation, I'm finding my shopping needs well met.
With some major connection changes being made for our interacting with the mission internet network, many retirees are going to be needing simple computer help-something that will quite likely provide me with gainful employment. Oh, did you take that "gainful" as meaning gaining finances? No. And because I'm talking about it here, I guess it won't be gaining rewards in heaven, either. <sigh> Hmm, maybe it will gain me prayers though, if/when the Lord allows me to be a blessing in that area for whomever He brings across my path? Yep, I think that's it.
Seriously, I'm thankful that the Lord has brought me so very far from those first fateful days of my introduction to my initial computer in the middle of the Sepik jungles. While I managed to literally blow up that first computer THREE times to learn my first lesson in computing, He has enabled me to advance far beyond plugging in the computer to the correct voltage to working through more complicated scenarios. Okay-usually by my doing something wrong and having to have a tech guy guide me through the recovery process, but that works well to cement lessons.
The Revelation Bible lessons are still on the back burner, waiting for me to move them forward more. I'm going to try to email over the edited first 2 lessons, so they can be printed and sent into Siawi for the Bible teachers to peruse and consider whether what I'm providing will be a help or not. I've heard that there will be a flight in to take medical supplies and a few other things, so my goal is to get those lessons ready for someone on the field to print and include on that shipment. Since the Siawi church leaders continue to have shortwave radio contact with missionaries out on the coast, I should be able to later get an evaluation from them on the lesson usability.
The Siawi Ministry Team, of which you are a vital part, continues to stand with me faithfully through prayer, finances, and encouragement. How thankful I am for that, and I know the Siawi believers are, too. I'd really like to get back up in the St. Louis area sometime in the next few months, so that I can reconnect with more of you folks on that team. It has been too long since I've been able to see you-and for some, I'll have to wait until we gather around the Throne.
May the Lord richly bless you and uphold you as you serve Him, using the gifts and abilities He's given you. The Lord knit each of us differently, right in the womb, preparing us for His service. May we be ever faithful and good stewards of the gifts He's given us!
Together for His honor and glory,
Linda
