After the failure of what sounded like a great plan to our human reasoning, the Siawis seemed to be left in limbo. But God wasn’t frustrated like we were, when the radio hadn’t been repaired in time for the missionary family who volunteered to try to help them get it set back up and working to do so. (Wonder if it was because He knew they really didn’t have time for that, as they were handling many other responsibilities during their short time in the Sepik?)

I just got news, though, that the Siawi radio HAS been repaired and has even been flown into Iteri, where other missionaries worked and have since phased out of. Their village is within hiking distance of Siawi (if you don’t mind a few steep mountains and 2-3 days of hard hiking). The Siawi folks had asked that their radio be sent there should it be repaired; and there was a flight to take it in there recently.

So far, there has been no news as to whether any of the Siawi folks have gotten over there to hike it back to Siawi to try to hook it up. If they get it working, they’ll certainly be up during one of the radio scheduled times.

In the meantime, there might be the possibility of someone else’s being able to go in to try to help them get it working, checking out the antenna and power connections. That is all up in the air right now, and something we need to be praying about. All missionary personnel in the Sepik (and all over PNG…and the world) are carrying heavy loads. This would be adding yet another layer and might not be do-able, or even wise. Please just be praying for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance…and His working in the hearts of the Siawi people, to see His hand in all this.

While they have been out of communication with the outside world, they have NOT been out of communication options with God. Have they been taking advantage of their privilege to be able to go before Him in prayer, seeking wisdom and help? What has He been teaching them through all this?

You and I are too far away to be involved physically, but we can be actively and vitally involved through our prayers. God has committed himself to work through prayer. There’s no magical power, no rubbing the lamp and the genie will take action. No, our God wants us to realize it is He himself who has the power and the wisdom to deal with our problems. Let’s do our part for our Siawi brothers and sisters and lay this before Him.

Together, we are his children and his workmanship. Rejoice that you are counted in his family!

Together, for His honor and glory,

Linda
