Miss me? And certainly, you must be missing Snippets from Siawi as I have been

Where have I been? Well, missing in action, I guess…as in involved in other actions, rather than keeping up with needed correspondence, so that you’d keep praying. There are actually several reasons why you’ve not heard from me for a while.

One is that there has simply been very very little news from Siawi. The only thing I know is that the hoped for trip by a support missionary in to Siawi to help them get their radio working again isn’t going to happen, at least, not any time soon. Because flights were difficult to arrange and the missionary was needed elsewhere, as far as I know, there are no plans for getting the Siawis set back up with a working radio. So-please do keep praying for them in that. (Also, the letters I wrote a couple of months ago have never left Wewak (on the coast) as far as I know.) And no, “No news is good news” does NOT hold true in this situation.

Another reason is that I’ve been busy supporting the medical community with finances (mainly provided from my insurance programs, thankfully.) In just 6 weeks, there were 19 visits to 3 different doctors and a number of other medical facilities scheduled. (No, no hospital visits included in that total, and no serious problems-at least, as far as we know now.)  Evidently, 73 was the magic number for my body’s further disintegration. All very normal for that evidently very elderly number of years-just not something that I’d had to deal with yet. Thankfully, nothing too painful, nor requiring much medication.

I’m praising and thanking the Lord for helping me find a new primary care physician, a great cardiologist, and a neurologist with whom I’m very pleased. Not only that, but through route planning help from Tom and Danielle Brendle (my former coworkers and present “stand-in” kids, since both my children live far away), I’m able to drive to ALL of those medical locations on my own. For the most difficult one, the Lord even planned ahead for a huge tower of some sort to be standing on the edge of the road, to show me where to make the one turn that would have been a bit of a challenge without it. AND that the new PCP and the new neurologist are both located on exactly the same travel path, except for the last 2 miles or so, meaning one safe non-overwhelming route gets me to both, with only a small divergence at the end. (That was and is cause for rejoicing on my part, since the “to and fro” involved in all this was what concerned me the most.)

As you may have surmised, from my “medical history” listed here, not a lot of progress is being made on the Romans Bible lessons, though I’m working on editing lesson 14 of 16 total. As long as the neurologist doesn’t decide that carpal tunnel syndrome is causing part of my problems with my right hand, once this spate of medical appointments is finished and all the reports are in, I should be able to concentrate more fully on Siawi Bible lessons. Thank you for praying about that!

One more thing that has occupied a bit of my time has been getting “hurricane hardened,” since I don’t plan to flee before any hurricanes that might come my way this season. With the first named storm now shoving its way north in the Gulf of Mexico, it is obviously time to get ready. Battery operated lanterns? Check! 1-burner butane stove? Check! Water jugs on hand? Check! Small freezer to store lots of ice to provide a way to keep basics chilled for a week or so? Check! Rechargeable batteries on hand? Check! Okay, I think I’m ready to hunker down, if need be.

For those of you who were praying (and hopefully are still praying) for the Holmquists and Cade’s full recovery, things are going well for them and they are making plans to move to Ethnos360’s missionary training institute in Missouri (where my daughter and her husband minister) in August. If you’d like to read the update they sent out, just reply to this copy of the Snippets, and I’ll send you the URL to find it online. Also, if you’d like more details about what has inspired my sudden flurry of medical visits, feel free to ask about that, too.

Through it all, there have been those faithful financial givers and I trust, faithful prayer supporters. How I appreciate each and every one of you!  Thank you for your faithfulness, even as I’ve been slacking in my part of this equation. I love and appreciate each of you. May the Lord bless and encourage your heart, as you serve Him in your corner of the world.

Together, for His honor and glory,

Linda
